Is Marvel Studios Planning To Release MCU Disney+ Shows on Blu-ray?

WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki

One thing that fans of Daredevil know is the wait for physical media releases for the show. It was over a year until the first season of Daredevil received a physical media release, with the third and final season still not getting one and likely never will after being canceled two years ago.

A similar issue may arise for Disney+ shows, not just for Star Wars but also for the MCU, considering how many shows Marvel Studios will produce for the streaming service. Not to mention that Kevin Feige has stated that these streaming shows will be “100 percent the future” for Marvel Studios.

NEWS

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Kevin Feige was asked whether Marvel Studios' Disney+ shows like WandaVision would be available on physical media to which Feige responded in genuine confusion, asking, “Is Mandalorian on Blu-ray?” Feige continued, saying that he didn't know when and if these shows would be released on any physical media:

“The truth is, I don't know. That's a good question for which I will look for the answer. I don't know.”

Feige was able to humorously pivot into plugging Disney's streaming service, saying that “You can pay a very low fee per month and have access to something that you can put it on your TV whenever you want!”

WHAT THIS MEANS

It's relevant for Kevin Feige to ask whether The Mandalorian had gotten any physical release since it has just finished its second season while the first season still hasn't been released on Blu-ray. It makes sense if Disney wants to retain subscribers for Disney+, as releasing their original shows shortly after launching them on their streaming service would be a poor strategy at retaining them.

WandaVision is being poised as a limited series, but it still isn't likely that fans will see a physical release of the show any time soon after it completes in March. Probably even more so than Star Wars, the MCU shows will be a huge draw for the streaming service, which Disney likely won't want to disrupt with any physical releases. This means that if fans want to keep up with the MCU, subscribing to Disney+, even in intervals, will be the only option for now.
