James Gunn's Peacemaker: Green Lantern Connection Spotted In New Set Photos

Green Lantern, Peacemaker

Peacemaker was announced as an HBO Max series in late September and finally began shooting this month. John Cena will be joined by Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, and Chris Conrad, likely involving the origins of Peacemaker while also directly connecting to The Suicide Squad.

Warner Bros. has recently tried to right the ship that is the DC Expanded Universe. In a talk at CES 2021, Chairman of Warner Bros. Entertainment Ann Sarnoff said that “we're building a DC Universe plan that's much more centrally connected, but individually executed,” pointing to more connectivity with films and shows like Green Lantern.

So, while fans won't get such connections like Green Arrow appearing in Peacemaker, there still seems to be a reference to another green superhero in this series.

THE CITY OF HAL JORDAN

A fan was able to meet John Cena and James Gunn on the Peacemaker set as they were shooting, who also captured photos of a police car parked in front of the house.

On the police car, the decal reads “Evergreen Police” and “Charlton County.”

Both of these decals are references, with Evergreen City being the home of Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Charlton County paying tribute to Charlton Comics, which originally owned the character of Peacemaker before DC Comics acquired him.

EXPANDING THE DC CINEMATIC UNIVERSE

It's exhilarating to see even a small reference like this since DC films has recently been a bit barren on world-building, aside from Zack Snyder's films which packed themselves with references and appearances from other superheroes. Obviously, this doesn't mean that Jordan or any other Green Lantern will appear in Peacemaker, but it's nice to see the world expanding.

There are many locations that the DCEU has yet to explore, so seeing the city of Hal Jordan referenced in an HBO Series that itself will directly tie into the theatrical film The Suicide Squad is very satisfying as a fan.

Who knows, maybe the upcoming Green Lantern series for HBO Max will actually connect to the films and not just be an isolated property like Joker.
