Marvel's Kevin Feige Teases Potential For More MCU Sitcoms

The premiere of Disney+'s WandaVision is set to begin Phase 4 of the MCU on January 15. Not only will this be the first Marvel Studios project since July 2019, but it will introduce an entirely new storytelling method: situational comedy.

With Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany back to portray their roles as Scarlet Witch and Vision, respectively, they'll pay homage to some of the most famous television shows in American history. The nine-episode season is set to take place over the course of many decades, giving respect to each era's sitcom style.

While this is a brand-new idea for the MCU, it may not be the last.

NEWS

In a recent WandaVision press conference, via ComicBook.com, Marvel President Kevin Feige left the door open for future sitcoms in the MCU.

When asked directly if there will be more Marvel sitcoms he said:

"We'll see. This was our test run. Marvel has had a lot of good, successful TV in the past. This was Marvel Studios' first foray."

Feige went on to explain why they desire to do something different with this "whacky idea."

"The idea always was, yes, to do something that could not be done as a feature that plays with the format and plays with the medium. There were a lot of meeting before everyone understood what we were trying to go for...We're able to turn a whacky idea into a whackier show...It worked out perfectly that this is the debut of on Disney+ for the MCU."

WHAT THIS MEANS

As Feige says, WandaVision is a "test run" meaning that another MCU sitcom could be in their future plans. The obvious option for another MCU sitcom would be a second season of WandaVision, but there has been no evidence to point to that being a reality. In fact, it seems like Wanda Maximoff's story will continue on in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

So if not WandaVision, what else? Here are two options:

She-Hulk

Kevin Feige has already gone on the record saying that the upcoming Disney+ show She-Hulk will be a “half-hour legal comedy.” This seems like a very similar style to a sitcom, especially knowing it will be based on John Byrne's Sensational She-Hulk.

Unannounced Project

While Ms. Marvel would be the next best guess, it is likely that another sitcom would come from a show that has yet to be announced by Marvel Studios. Maybe this is where we will get the long-awaited and highly-anticipated MCU debut of Squirrel Girl.
