Zack Snyder's Justice League: Wonder Woman & Aquaman Destruction Teased In New Poster
Ever since the film was greenlit last May 2020, Zack Snyder's Justice League has been the subject of headlines in the past months. Of course, Snyder was a major part of that due to the director's stockpile of reveals about his version of the 2017 film, but other cast members joined in the fun by sharing their own tidbits about the famous director's cut.
From Superman's game-changing arc to the surprising inclusion of Jared Leto's Joker from Suicide Squad, it's evident that this Justice League will be far different from the theatrical version. Despite the already-confirmed plot points, it seems that Snyder has more secrets that have yet to be uncovered, with the director teasing that fans have only seen “the tip of the iceberg.”
One of the elements that will return in the Snyder Cut is the Knightmare sequence. The scene, which was originally from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, was initially featured in Snyder's vision, but it was ultimately scrapped after the director's sudden exit mid-production.
Now, a new poster may shed some light on how the sequence will be portrayed in Zack Snyder's Justice League.
WONDER WOMAN & AQUAMAN NO MORE?
The latest Justice League poster might've hinted at the grim fates of two DCEU heroes, namely Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
In the image, Diana's shield can be seen among the rubble, potentially hinting that Themyscira's champion didn't survive Darkseid's attack in the Hall of Justice.
Meanwhile, Arthur's trident can also be spotted within the ruins of the team's base, which isn't a good sign for the King of Atlantis.
THE FATE OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE UNKNOWN
As it is, these Easter eggs don't bode well for both Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Based on what's been revealed so far, the Knightmare timeline is a post-apocalyptic future where Darkseid essentially won over the Justice League, and he ultimately transformed Superman as his own weapon against Earth. Before that even happened, it goes without saying that the League was able to put up a fight, but they failed to defend Earth as evidenced by the destroyed Hall of Justice.
Given Diana and Arthur's powers, it seems that those weren't enough to withstand the might of Darkseid, leading to their eventual downfalls. There's always a chance that the two heroes regrouped and returned to Themyscira and Atlantis, but leaving behind their weapons is unusual. This could be further proof that the heroes died during the team's last stand against Darkseid, and the emotional toll of seeing his friends (and Lois) die might've been too much for Superman to handle.
Whatever the case, the extended runtime of Zack Snyder's Justice League presents an opportunity to further explore this apocalyptic future. Hopefully, concrete answers will be revealed by the time the film arrives on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
