Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: James Gunn Announces Retuning Crew Member For MCU Movie

On July 20, 2018, James Gunn was fired from Disney as the director of any future installments of the Guardians of The Galaxy. This occurred over a slew of controversial Tweets resurfacing that the director posted before even starting Guardians of The Galaxy. Later, on Oct. 8 of that year, Gunn was hired by Warner Bros. to write and direct the next incarnation of The Suicide Squad. 

Eventually in March 2019 Disney rehired Gunn to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, the agreement he made with WB was still strong and Gunn had to full wrap The Suicide Squad before starting production on Vol. 3. This sets The Guardians up now for the 2023 release date, six years after Vol. 2 was released. 

When Gunn was removed from Marvel's future plans, and he went to make The Suicide Squad, he took his cinematographer Henry Braham with him. Now, it appears this duo will continue collaborating moving forward.

James Gunn has on Twitter confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cinematographer Henry Braham will be returning for Vol. 3. He was asked directly by Twitter user Hadeed Butt, "Is Henry Braham your cinematographer again or is it someone else this time?" Gunn responded saying, "Henry is shooting Flash, I believe, and then he'll be working with me again on Vol 3 later this year."

WHAT THIS MEANS

One of the biggest ironies of Gunn going to DC to make a Suicide Squad movie is that it was clear 2016's Suicide Squad was meant to be their version of Gunn's Guardians movie. Now, DC is getting exactly what they wanted all along including Braham who shot Vol. 2.

It cannot be understated how beautifully shot Guardians of The Galaxy,Vol. 2 is shot. There is clearly a lot of computer graphics used in the space adventure, but that shouldn't take away anything from Braham's talent. On the contrary, having to imagine what the surrounding blue or green screen will look like when fully digitized is difficult. Actors, directors, cinematographers, and more have to visualize these scenes enough so that they work seamlessly when the CGI is added on. 

One area that comes to mind is Ego's planet and the beautifully shown light and mystery emanating off this living entitg. Gunn and Braham clearly enjoy working together and fans should rejoice that this pair will return for yet another cosmic journey.
