The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Bucky Admits Captain America Is Needed In New Teaser
After multiple delays, the much-anticipated arrival of the Anthony Mackie & Sebastian Stan-starring The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ is only several weeks away. The series was supposed to kickstart the small screen era of the MCU, but the pandemic derailed those plans.
Instead, the action-packed show will now serve as the second entry to the ambitious Phase 4 slate of Marvel Studios, and it is expected to tackle certain issues in a post-Endgame world. One of the plot points that will be addressed is the legacy of the Captain America mantle.
At the tail-end of the 2019 MCU blockbuster, Steve Rogers confirmed that his choice for the next Captain America is Sam Wilson, but it was established in the show's marketing that the transition will not be easy. Now, a recent tidbit may provide more clues on how the series will handle this subplot.
THE WORLD NEEDS CAPTAIN AMERICA
Marvel Studios officially unveiled a brand new promo spot for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and it featured an interesting piece of dialogue that could hint at the arrival of another Captain America.
According to the official trailer's closed-captioning, Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes mentioned that “we need a Cap,” followed up by Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson responding with, “Damn right.”

A GREAT SET-UP FOR FALCON'S CAPTAIN AMERICA TRANSFORMATION
Based on what's been revealed in the promo spot, it looks like the pair of Bucky and Sam will have a lot to discuss in terms of protecting the legacy of Captain America.
During Endgame, Sam mentioned that wielding the shield “feels like it's someone else's,” and it's reasonable to assume that this is the first hint that there was some sense of hesitation for the character. That said, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is poised to showcase the compelling journey of Sam towards becoming the Star-Spangled Avenger, and it's only fitting that Bucky is the one that pushes him to accept this huge responsibility.
This line could further reinforce Bucky's strong stamp of approval towards Sam's evolution as Captain America. It seems that the Winter Soldier is aware of the fact that the absence of Cap will heavily affect the world in a bad way, and the character will be doing anything to honor his best friend's wishes.
Introducing a new Captain America is a significant step for the MCU, especially considering that the whole world is still recovering from the after-effects of Thanos' invasion. By accepting the mantle, it presents a huge opportunity for Sam to provide a beacon of hope while also sending a strong message about race and representation along the way.
Overall, Sam's MCU story has the potential to evolve in surprising ways in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and it will be interesting to find out how it unfolds when the show debuts on March 18 on Disney+.
