The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's 'Wonderful' Easter Eggs Teased By Director

Falcon Flying The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Fans have made it a challenge to find every possible Easter egg placed in the movies by Marvel Studios, some of which are still yet to be found to this day. That same hunt has transitioned to the shows of the MCU with plenty of references found in just the trailers for WandaVision.

More references have been discovered in the trailers for Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with many of them having potential implications for the plot of the wider Marvel universe. The crew and cast of these projects are well aware of the importance some of these Easter eggs can have, which hopefully still ends up being fun for fans, despite whatever impact they ultimately have.

LAYING A LOT OF EGGS

In the Spring 2021 issue of Disney's D23 Magazine obtained by The Direct, director Kari Skogland discussed the inclusion of Easter eggs in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

“I think we were able to really find some wonderful Easter eggs that you will discover as we go by, going deep into the material.”

Skogland said that these Easter eggs were pulled from “earlier comics” and will reference everything from events to people:

“One of the great things about having six hours is you have the time to do that. We had some fun finding events, places, people, and things to bring to the fore. We had fun and definitely were informed by the earlier comics.”

As of now, there's no telling whether these cheeky references will have wide-reaching implications for the rest of the MCU, but Sebastian Stan said that's part of the fun of seeing them on-screen.

“What's amazing about the incredible universe Kevin [Feige] has created is that there are all these vignettes happening. Sometimes they're all happening at the same time or they're happening at different times, but when you zoom out of it and get a bird's-eye view of it, seemingly it's always connected, right?”

From the way Stan talks about the inclusion of these references, it seems like he'll be involved in delivering some of them himself.

“There's always a feeling to everything you're doing that perhaps this is serving a larger piece to something... or not! And sometimes part of the fun is that you might think something serves a bigger purpose, but it doesn't. Nothing is ever one color in the MCU... it's a very complex array of things.”

GET IT? CAUSE HE'S THE FALCON?

Considering what has been rumored for this series, specifically regarding the expansion of powered individuals in the MCU, many of these Easter eggs could end up mattering more in the long-term. Not to mention Elijah Richardson joining as Eli Bradley, one of the founding members of the Young Avengers, essentially being his own walking Easter egg.

On the other hand, many of these Easter eggs could end up being fans looking too deeply into something that could be intended as purposeful misdirection. It will be interesting to see how deeply production for Marvel Studios' second show delves into the comic books lore and whether they'll amount to anything bigger in the future.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiers on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
