The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Heartfelt & Lively Tone Teased By Marvel Director

Falcon and Winter Soldier Zemo

As WandaVision rapidly approaches its season finale on Disney+ on March 5, 2021, Marvel Studios' second endeavor on the streaming service is readying for its debut.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will take a deep dive into the post-Avengers: Endgame world as Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson face new and old demons alike. Captain America: Civil War villain Baron Zemo is ready to take on nefarious reigns again, and Sharon Carter, Steve Rogers' old flame, is also confirmed to be making her MCU re-introduction as an on-the-run fugitive.

From what's been seen in trailers, teasers, and posters so far, the star-spangled series appears to have a seriously gritty tone and will feature some of the MCU's most visually-stunning fight choreography to date.

With only weeks to go until its debut, marketing efforts for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are ramping up, including a new interview with the show's director...

THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER: GRITTY, LIGHT-HEARTED FUN

In the Spring 2021 issue of Disney's D23 Magazine obtained by The Direct, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland revealed the sort of tone viewers can expect from the series.

Along with plentiful action, Skogland said that the tone of Barnes' and Wilson's adventure will be "fun, lively, emotionally charged."

D23 Magazine also noted that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier "afforded [Skogland] an opportunity to blend all her passions into a singular project." Skogland agreed, commenting that the series allowed her "to play in a muscular world:"

“I got to play in a muscular world, as well as in quite a dramatic world...I had to use every bit of muscle I had in terms of the experience I was bringing to the table, not only with action, but with the heartfelt drama.”

AN MCU DISNEY+ SPECTACLE THAT WILL PUSH BOUNDARIES

If there's one thing that's been made abundantly clear by Marvel Studios' forefront into the streaming world, it's that it is pushing boundaries never imagined before. This has already been the case for WandaVision, a show that has broken its own expectations since day one.

For The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there's no saying where or how the show will spin. A hint of this "heartfelt drama" Skogland mentioned may have already been teased by footage fans have seen of Bucky and Sam in what appears to be therapy of the sorts; while the duo is facing several outward threats, a lot of the fuel of the show might be within the characters' own struggles.

Another draw-in for this "fun, lively" tone may be the reunion of already-established MCU characters. Sharon Carter's return is bound to raise some questions, both serious and comedic, and it's been established that she and the Barnes-Wilson team-up have history from Civil War. Even heroes need to laugh in the midst of a knuckles-bearing battle.

Otherwise, the "action-packed" part of the show speaks for itself. Between Zemo and the Flag Smashers, the bickering heroes will have more than enough baddies to punch their way through during the show's six-episode run.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will start streaming on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
