Tom Holland Teases How Spider-Man 3 Handles Mysterio Cliffhanger From Last MCU Movie

Peter Parker Spider-Man Mysterio

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was revealed that Mysterio had one last trick up his sleeve. Not only did Jake Gyllenhaal's Quentin Beck frame Spider-Man for murder, but he unmasked Peter Parker to the entire world. As soon as this happened, fans were abuzz with theories about how this would be resolved in the sequel with the idea of Talos or another Skrull impersonating Peter.

In a new interview, when discussing the ending of the last movie, Tom Holland promised fans that those who were sympathetic towards Peter for what Mysterio did to him would be pleased with how Marvel Studios “kicks [Spider-Man 3] off.”

NEWS

Speaking with Variety's podcast Awards Circuit, the podcast host mentioned to Tom Holland that he was still mad at what Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio did to Peter Parker at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Responding to this comment, Holland assured him that they'll be pleased with how Spider-Man 3 opens after this plot development:

“Yeah, but wait until you see how we kick it off in the third one. You'll be chuffed.”

For our non-U.K. readers, "chuffed" is British slang for "pleased."

EXPLORED OR BRUSHED UNDER THE RUG?

It's uncertain whether Holland was a bit sarcastic in his answer about whether things might turn out better for Peter Parker at the beginning of Spider-Man 3 or worse. It wouldn't be the first time that Marvel Studios' Spider-Man has resolved such a huge cliffhanger completely off-screen; this occured with Aunt May finding out Peter's secret identity at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming only for that to be resolved before Far From Home evened started.

However, props on set seem to indicate that Spider-Man will still be confronted with ire from at least some citizens, not to mention that it's likely Charlie Cox's Matthew Murdock is in the movie to help defend Peter Parker in a court of law. It could very well be the case that the start of Spider-Man 3 will properly address the cliffhanger ending from Far From Home.

Whether it will actually work out for Peter Parker is another question entirely.
