WandaVision: New Scene Indicates Monica Rambeau Already Has Superpowers

Warning: This article contains spoilers for WandaVision

WandaVision debuted an epic fifth episode this week, balancing the worlds both inside and outside Westview. Monica Rambeau has taken a lead role in the story outside Westview after her backstory was revealed in more detail in last week's episode.

Fans were originally introduced to Monica as the young daughter of Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. Although a lot has changed in the years since Carol Danvers left Earth and Monica is now a Captain at SWORD, the organization founded by her mother.

Monica revealed in this latest episode that during her time in the Westview 'Hex', she was taken under the painful spell of Wanda's grief. When she was unceremoniously expelled from Westview after angering Wanda, the agents at SWORD ran some tests to see how she was affected. These results may have hinted at an exciting development for her character.

DID MONICA RAMBEAU JUST GET SUPERPOWERS?

In episode 5 of WandaVision, the doctors at SWORD find something unusual with Monica's X-Rays.

SWORD Agent: "We're going to need to take these again, there's something wrong with the machine."
Darcy: "Those are blank."
SWORD Agent: "Like I said..."
Darcy: "Well what about her labs?"
SWORD Agent: "I'm gonna need another blood draw."

In the image below, it can be seen that Monica's X-Rays are completely whited out.

MONICA'S SUPERHERO ORIGINS

For those hoping to see Monica's superhero origin story, it may have just happened.

These strange X-Ray results indicate that Monica's body is radiating too much energy for the machines to take a clear picture. This could simply be a residual effect of her recent interaction with the forcefield in Westview, but it could also hint at something more.

In Marvel comics history, Monica Rambeau has been through a few different superhero iterations. She's been known as Pulsar, Photon, and Spectrum across different comics and was even dubbed as the second Captain Marvel at one stage. Her superpowers have always been related to energy use and manipulation, so this is a huge hint that she may have these powers now without knowing it.

In WandaVision Episode 5, it's mentioned how incredibly difficult and dangerous it would be for a person to re-enter the Hex. So, it's possible that Wanda flinging Monica through the force field at the end of Episode 4 caused her to absorb some of its energy and this is how she gains her powers in the MCU.

This is somewhat similar to how Carol Danvers received her powers in Captain Marvel as she was exposed to the power of the Tesseract. In the same way, Monica's exposure to whatever energy is making up the Hex could have given her secret powers.
