WandaVision Reveals New Photos of Evan Peters' Pietro, Superpowered Twins & More
WARNING: This article contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 6.
Throughout the course of WandaVision, the plot has continued to up the stakes every week as the story evolves from a traditional sitcom to a weird and wonderful MCU epic.
As the series has progressed through eras, more layers have continued to appear in the story, expanding the mystery of Westview even further. The fourth episode introduced viewers to the involvement of S.W.O.R.D in the storyline as the agency investigates the disappearance of an entire town.
Meanwhile, inside the bubble, Vision has grown suspicious of the unexplained mysteries of the town, and his lack of memories of what came before it. The concluding moments of the fifth episode saw a recast version of Wanda's brother, Pietro, coming to town — played by X-Men actor Evan Peters — except all isn't as it seems as Pietro acts extremely hostile towards Wanda.
A key component of Wanda and Vision's first standalone story has been the introduction of the couple's twin boys, who have rapidly aged up to the age of ten by the most recent installment in the series. The two have now gained access to the powers of their comic counterparts, Wiccan and Speed, which strongly resemble the abilities of Wanda and Quicksilver — their mother and uncle.
It's unknown exactly where the story is heading through the final three episodes. However, Marvel Studios has just released a set of screenshots, highlighting some key moments in the latest episode.
QUICKSILVER, WICCAN, AND SPEED HIGHLIGHTED
Below are nine newly released still shots from Episode 6 of WandaVision, entitled "All-New Halloween Spooktacular!"
The first of the new stills shows Evan Peters' new version of the MCU's Quicksilver standing next to Tommy Maximoff, dressed in the Marvel speedster's costume for Halloween. The Halloween costume offers fans a taste of what's to come for Tommy in the future as he takes up the mantle of Speed, a member of the Young Avengers.
For the first time in the MCU, the latest WandaVision episode showed Wanda is her classic comic accurate costume, which Wanda describes as the costume of a Sokovian fortune teller. This shot showcases the family's Halloween costumes (except for Vision) as it displays both Billy and Tommy in the comic book outfits of Wiccan and Speed.
Wanda hasn't been seen alongside her brother Pietro in the MCU since the character's original death in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Even though Pietro, who was previously played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was recast with Evan Peters, it was still exciting to see the Maximoff family dynamic back, with some obvious changes.
The episode featured plenty of Evan Peters' Quicksilver throughout, as the character continued to taunt Wanda, clearly proving there's more to him than meets the eye.
Possibly the biggest highlight of the episode was finally seeing Tommy and Billy using their superhuman abilities which they inherit from Wanda. Tommy's powers are inherited from his uncle Pietro as he gains super-speed, while Billy's powers closely resemble Wanda's telekinesis and telepathy. This particular still highlights Billy's first use of his powers as he sees his father, Vision, in danger.
The episode makes clear that in the time passed since Pietro arrived at the door in the concluding moments of the last episodes, the twins' uncle has been staying with the family. Pietro seems to have developed a close bond with the boys as he takes them out for an evening of Halloween fun.
In the real world, the 90s episode spent a good amount of time with Monica, Darcy, and Jimmy Woo on the outside of the Hex. The trio was thrust into action as they went rogue from S.W.O.R.D to try and save Wanda along with the rest of Westview.
The sixth installment of the series separated Vision from the rest of the family for the first time as he investigated the mysteries of Westview. The formerly deceased character traveled to the border of the town in an attempt to see what's outside Westview.
In the concluding moments of the episode, Vision made an attempt to escape Westview and explore the outside. The character was almost killed in the process, forcing Wanda to expand the boundaries of the bubble.
WHAT COMES NEXT FOR WANDAVISION
If Marvel Studios has proven anything with WandaVision, it's that fans should always expect the unexpected. The series has continued to navigate unexpected twists and turns through every new episode making it impossible to predict what will come next.
This is the second batch of stills released for this episode. The first set was released on Friday showcasing a few moments from the trailer, which were previously shown in the main trailer. It's likely Disney chose to release this batch a few days later in order to avoid spoiling these key moments of the episode for fans.
These newly released stills draw particular attention to Peters' Quicksilver, whose suspicious hostility towards Wanda in the latest episode seems to suggest there is more to the character than meets the eye. The true nature of the character is something which is sure to be explored in the next installment.
Additionally, the stills highlight Billy and Tommy suited up in superhero attire and finally in possession of their powers. The twins turning superhuman is sure to play a major role in the MCU down the line as they likely becoming founding members of the Young Avengers. Additionally, as the series builds towards the “big battles” promised for the final episodes, this will give the two the ability to play a role in the high-octane action moments.
Seeing these characters in comic-accurate costumes for the first time in the MCU was an exciting moment for many. While these were simply used as Halloween costumes and are unlikely to appear like this again, it was a fun way to reference the comics.
WandaVision will release its seventh episode this Friday, exclusively on Disney+.
