Anthony Mackie Really Wants Marvel's Blade Reboot To Feature The Falcon
With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier so close to its March 19 release on Disney+, the hype for the upcoming series is at an all-time high.
After playing supporting roles and starring in brief cameos, the second MCU show will redefine the characters of Sam and Bucky according to director Kari Skogland. More character development will be achieved through the series providing a bit more breathing room, as evidenced by the potential runtime for each of the episodes.
One of the show's co-leads Anthony Mackie teased that the show will have "many surprises" in-store, though he was unable to elaborate on what these would entail. The questioner brought up the appearance of Don Cheadle's War Machine, which is certain to be one of the many shocks that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will bring.
Out of the MCU newcomers, Bucky Barnes actor Sebastian Stan revealed that he is most excited for Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight. Stan's co-star had some different answers, with Anthony Mackie wanting to join Marvel's very own Daywalker...
ANTHONY MACKIE WANTS TO BE IN BLADE
During The Falcon and the Winter Soldier press conference, Falcon actor Anthony Mackie was asked which upcoming MCU characters he was most excited to see and potentially share the screen with.
The star explained that “She-Hulk is an interesting character [that he’s] looking forward to seeing.” However, the Sam Wilson actor turned his subsequent comments towards Marvel President Kevin Feige, saying that he would really like to “spend some time in Blade world.”
Mackie continued his request to the Marvel CCO, hoping he would have at least “one line” in the Blade universe.
SAM WILSON MEETS CREATURES AND COURTROOMS
Jennifer Walters and Blade are very interesting choices from Anthony Mackie, but his passion for appearing alongside these characters is clear. When explaining his Blade choice, the Falcon star recounted a time when "they were shooting Spider-Man in Harlem on 125th street...and [he] was a HUGE Tobey Maguire fan."
Mackie was jealous that another actor was able to star in the Sam Raimi-directed film and get the chance to say "It's Spider-Man!" Mackie simply wants to be afforded the chance to do the same for Blade or She-Hulk, even if it is just one line.
Tonally, both She-Hulk and Blade are the complete opposite of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Whereas Mackie's show is a grounded, buddy-cop take on the MCU, She-Hulk will supposedly take the form of a "half-hour legal comedy." Blade will go even further from the genre of Sam Wilson's show, drawing heavily from horror tropes.
If Falcon does end up joining these characters in their respective projects, it will be interesting to see how the new potential Captain America adapts and interacts with his surroundings. To be fair, Sam Wilson has gone up against armies of alien monsters, so perhaps a giant green lawyer and a vampire may be a bit easier to get used to.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuts on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
