Justice League: Warner Bros. Boss Reacts To SnyderVerse Fan Movement
One full weekend after its release, Zack Snyder's Justice League has taken the DC fandom by storm. Director Zack Snyder had the opportunity to bring his full vision to life in the four-hour extended cut of this controversial team-up movie, and the results have been fairly positive from both fans and critics alike.
It's well known by now that Snyder had his hand in developing nearly the entire DC Extended Universe to date, serving as either the director or producer on all but one of the franchise's nine canon films to date. This made 2017's Justice League feel like even worse of a movie than it turned out to be upon its debut, although it appears to have been rectified thanks to the Snyder Cut.
However, fans shouldn't count on a revival for the "Snyderverse," even with the overwhelming and recent success.
THE DCEU CONTINUING AS PLANNED
WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff recently spoke to Variety about the future of the DCEU after the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max.
When asked about her reaction to the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement, Sarnoff said that the company is "very thankful for his many contributions to DC" yet Warner Bros. is still focused on "the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now:"
"I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC. We’re just so happy that he could bring his cut of the “Justice League” to life because that wasn’t in the plan until about a year ago. With that comes the completion of his trilogy. We’re very happy we’ve done this, but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now."
THE SNYDERVERSE SEEMS TO BE NO MORE
The #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement has come out in full once again with the release of the Snyder Cut on HBO Max, finally delivering on the director's promises that have only been seen as rumors for most of the last three years. However, even with the fans being so vocal, Warner Bros. is locked in on following through with its own plan for the DCEU.
Even considering the fact that Snyder is one of the key players in bringing this franchise to life, it's clear that he is going down his own path with DC's heroes and villains while Warner Bros. stands firmly behind its ideas for the future. Once again, this is leading to a major disconnect between the studio, its filmmakers, and the material that makes it to screens.
The jury is still out for everything that Warner Bros. has laid out for the DCEU, largely because most of it is still early in the process of being made. The studio has excellent filmmakers making exciting new films such as James Gunn with The Suicide Squad and David F. Sandberg with Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, but there will always be some uneasiness due to the situation with Snyder.
For now, Zack Snyder's Justice League is available to stream on HBO Max.
