Justice League: Zack Snyder Spoils Big Finale Plans For DCEU Movies
Only a few days remain until longtime DCEU director/producer Zack Snyder brings his vision for DC's team-up movie fully to life with Zack Snyder's Justice League. Since the movie got the green light for production nearly a year ago, Snyder has been an open book in terms of what he's planning to put to screen in this renovated version of the 2017 blockbuster.
With the Snyder Cut coming in at a whopping four-hour-two-minute runtime, Snyder will have more than enough footage to bring everything he's been working on into reality and then some. Never afraid of going into heavy spoiler territory, the Justice League director has already revealed major plot points such as Joker's role in the movie as well as the highly anticipated Martian Manhunter debut.
In his most recent discussion for the film, Snyder even revealed what his plans would have been for his future with the DCEU...
ZACK SNYDER TALKS POST-JUSTICE LEAGUE
In a recent chat with the New York Times, director Zack Snyder spoke on what his plans would have been if he had continued with the DC Extended Universe. Specifically, with future Justice League movies, the armies of Earth would have all united again "when Darkseid comes to Earth," coming to the aid of "Atlanteans rising out of the ocean and the Themyscirans coming off their island" to fight the DCEU's big bad.:
"It’s the fall of Earth, when Superman succumbs to anti-life. And then sending Flash back in time to change one element so that doesn’t happen. And then the big battle where we beat him. When [the villain] Darkseid comes to Earth, in the movie that you’ll never see, the armies of Earth all unite again, as they did before. This time there would be aircraft carriers and Special Forces guys, all the armies of the world would come together, as well as [Aquaman’s fellow] Atlanteans rising out of the ocean and the Themyscirans [Wonder Woman’s compatriots] coming off their island. That was our big finale. But it’s a long drum roll and guitar solo to get there."
In terms of this new version of Justice League, Snyder was also asked why the film ends on a cliffhanger rather than having the story come to a definitive close. Snyder simply explained that "The ask was for (his) version of the movie" when it was approved for production.
WHAT WOULD HAVE BECOME OF JUSTICE LEAGUE SEQUELS
Zack Snyder has been known as someone that sticks to his guns and his vision no matter what, and that certainly appears to be the case here. Additionally, he appears to be keeping up with his tradition of revealing most of his plans for the DCEU, especially since the Snyder Cut will likely be his final run with the franchise.
As for the actual movie he would have made, every plot point he's revealed points to Darkseid playing a major role in multiple movies' worth of stories within the DCEU. This makes plenty of sense considering he's one of DC's most iconic villains from the comics, but now that the canon franchise is going in a different direction, it's a complete mystery if Darkseid will even be included in the core story of the next few years.
For now, fans are curious to see what Snyder's work with Darkseid entails in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Everything Snyder hasn't yet revealed will come to HBO Max on Thursday, March 18.
