Kevin Feige Teases Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Massive Impact on Future Marvel Titles

Falcon and Winter Soldier

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is finally on its way to Disney+ this Friday. Following the conclusion of WandaVision, many fans were surprised with the lack of a game-changing twist in the final episode as the multiverse wasn't introduced to the MCU, and Wanda didn't create the first mutants.

With the upcoming Captain America sequel series seemingly showcasing a more traditional Marvel adventure for Sam and Bucky, many have begun to speculate on ways the show could affect the MCU going forward.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has addressed the speculation during a press event for the upcoming project, promising fans it will massively impact future stories in the universe.

KEVIN FEIGE PROMISES A MASSIVE IMPACT FROM THE DISNEY+ SERIES

During the virtual press availability for The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Marvel CCO Kevin Feige responded to a question from E-Man's Movie Reviews in which he asked what impact fans can expect the series to have on the future of the MCU?

Feige began by promising that the events Sam and Bucky go through in their Disney+ series will have a “big impact on the MCU” given the two characters are themselves “essential” to the universe:

“Well, I mean the characters of Bucky and Sam are essential to the MCU. And as they change or as they evolve and whatever they go through could and should have a big impact on the MCU.”

The Marvel Studios president went on to level fan expectations given the expectations that previously surrounded WandaVision. He described that it is “hard to navigate every fan theory” as “not everything is world-shattering”:

“It is hard to navigate every fan theory that is going to pop up. Not everything is world-shattering to the point of bringing in some giant element of the comics that has never been in before or smashing the earth in two and creating two planets. There can be character shifts that have massive, massive implications for the stories we're telling in the future.”

LET'S SET EXPECTATIONS FOR THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER

WandaVision struggled heavily to please its fans in the final episodes. Viral theories of mutants and the multiverse that circulated throughout the season led many fans to set expectations too high on a level that Marvel hadn't planned to deliver.

Over 2018 and 2019 the MCU went through its biggest two years ever with Infinity War and Endgame acting as the culmination of ten years of build-up with the Avengers facing off against Thanos, introducing time-travel in the process.

Now that the period of world-shattering films out the way, Marvel fans need to reset their expectations to more standalone stories that don't necessarily change the course of the universe altogether.

Feige's wording here seems to imply The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will have a big impact on Sam and Bucky as characters, but viewers should not expect anything ground-breaking.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premier its first episode this Friday, exclusively on Disney+.
