Star Wars' Daisy Ridley Reacts To Marvel Casting Rumors
After the successful Infinity Saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding with Phase 4 poised to introduce new heroes into the mix. So far, the next chapter of the franchise will bring in heavy-hitters like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel, while also setting the stage for the debut of the Young Avengers down the line. This is being signaled by the arrival of several members like Kate Bishop and Tommy and Billy Maximoff.
On top of that, the multiverse is set to be the next big thing for the MCU, with projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home dealing with alternate reality shenanigans. It's no secret that the latter's involvement is a surprising one, and it could hint that other films under the umbrella of Sony's Spider-Man universe like Venom and Spider-Woman will likely be confirmed to be part of the larger multiverse in the MCU's fabric of reality.
It remains to be seen if this concept will eventually reveal that Sony's shared universe will cross over into the MCU, but it seems that a famous actress is willing to join the movement if given the chance.
DAISY RIDLEY TALKS ABOUT JOINING THE MCU
Star Wars star Daisy Ridley recently sat down with ComicBookMovie to talk about her latest film Chaos Walking, and one of the topics discussed were the rumors about her potential involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ridley opened up by admitting that someone asked her about “the Spider-Woman rumors,” and all she can say about that is the fact that it “sounds great.” The actress joked that she is now poised to be the “front-runner” to play the Marvel hero amid all the rumblings while also confirming that she already read the script of the upcoming Sony superhero film:
“Well, it's funny because someone asked me off the cuff about the Spider-Woman rumours recently, and I went, 'Oh, that sounds great.' Apparently, I've now declared myself a front-runner to be Spider-Woman which isn't true!. It's funny because I don't really choose things... I [didn't] set out to do another 'big film.' I just read the script, loved it, and loved the idea of it.”
Ridley then pointed out that she would be “open to anything” if a Marvel-themed opportunity ever surfaced, while also praising the MCU's “ever-shifting” world:
“Basically, should something come along and be great, of course, I'd be open to anything. I just finished WandaVision. What they did with it is so amazing and different and interesting. To be particularly in that world, which is ever-shifting and reimagining itself would be very exciting.”
DAISY RIDLEY'S MCU ROLE: WHAT COULD IT BE?
On the surface, Ridley's comments could only mean that she is more than willing to play a Marvel superhero if given the chance, but the fact that she already read the script could hint that the actress at least auditioned for the Spider-Woman role for Sony. This is pure speculation at this point, but evidence suggests that this is the case, and it will be interesting to see if an official announcement about the involvement of the actress will arrive soon.
Not much is known if Spider-Woman will be a Marvel Studios project, but previous evidence suggests that the studio is involved in some form. If this is the case, Ridley's casting as Jessica Drew could be a game-changer, considering that the hero played a pivotal role in the Secret Invasion storyline that will soon be a Disney+ series.
On the flip side, the possibilities are endless for Ridley in the MCU, and she can easily play another hero in the longstanding franchise. There's a chance that the actress may end up playing one of the members of the X-Men, with Rogue and Jean Grey being the likely options.
Meanwhile, Ridley's reveal that she is a fan of MCU projects like WandaVision should serve as a good sign for those fans eager to see her join the franchise. By being familiar with the characters and storylines, the potential inclusion of the actress should be a smooth transition down the line.
Whatever the case, the addition of Ridley to the MCU would no doubt be a welcome development.
