The anticipation surrounding The Suicide Squad is at an all-time high, especially after the debut of the film's mind-blowing first trailer.

Directed by James Gunn, the movie is being described as a semi-reboot/hybrid sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad, considering that some holdovers from the previous project will still be featured such as Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg. The flick will bring plenty of newcomers to the big screen as well, such as Idris Elba's Bloodsport and Peter Capaldi's Thinker.

In the film, it was confirmed that two versions of Task Force X will be featured, thus explaining the stacked ensemble that Gunn assembled for the project. The exact reason why the team will have two divisions is still being kept under wraps, but it's reasonable to assume that it could be the doing of the combined might of Starro and the villains within Corto Maltese

While fans are still connecting the dots on what exactly will happen in The Suicide Squad, a brand-new look at the film has emerged.

TWO NEW PROMO SPOTS FOR THE SUICIDE SQUAD

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn posted two new promo spots for the film, showcasing a brand-new look at the core members of Task Force X.

Peter Capaldi's Thinker shines in the first TV spot, giving the team his initial thoughts about the upcoming mission.

An impressive shot of Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang is the main highlight of the other promo alongside a menacing look at Starro the Conqueror. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Idris Elba's Bloodsport are also featured in attacking position in the very last shot.

A THRILLING LOOK AT TASK FORCE X

After months of waiting, the marketing for The Suicide Squad has ramped up, and it's evident that Gunn has been pulling out all the stops ever since he teased the arrival of a new trailer. No doubt, the latest promo spots offer a fresh look at the film while also adding intrigue to its main storyline.

Gunn previously confirmed that Peter Capaldi's Thinker is not the Clifford Devoe version of the character. And so, it's possible that this iteration of the villain is Cliff Carmichael, the second Thinker who is a usual adversary of the Firestorm from the pages of DC Comics.

By also confirming that this Thinker is not Clifford Devoe, this could also mean that the character will not be connected to Ezra Miller's Flash, considering that the villain is a main adversary for the speedster in various comic storylines and even in The CW series.

Meanwhile, the new shot of Captain Boomerang appears to tease that the villain will be featured in the latter half of the film. By piecing together the footage that was already shown, evidence suggests that the nighttime sequence in Corto Maltese could be the final act of The Suicide Squad. This could hint that the Flash villain survived Starro's initial conquest to help out the second version of Task Force X which includes Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and King Shark.

This is pure speculation at this point, but it's reasonable to assume that the first iteration of the Squad will include the likes of Michael Rooker's Savant, Sean Gunn's Weasel, and Captain Boomerang. Once the initial mission goes haywire, Amanda Waller could hit the panic button and send an extraction team led by Bloodsport.

Ultimately, a showdown between a Starro-infested Task Force X against the main Squad will likely happen, considering that the Kaiju villain has the means to control people using its armada of starfish.

Regardless, The Suicide Squad is shaping up to be an exciting film that will be full of unexpected twists and turns.

The Suicide Squad will premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6, 2021.
