It's no secret that Doom Patrol is a unique show within the DC Universe's small-screen lineup.

Developed by Jeremy Carver, the series follows a group of misfits with extraordinary abilities under the leadership of The Chief a.k.a. Dr. Niles Caulder, played by former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton. The team is composed of Robotman, Elasti-Girl, Negative Man, Crazy Jane, Cyborg, and a new member in the form of The Chief's daughter, Dorothy. Doom Patrol has two seasons under their belt with a third one coming up soon.

The ongoing pandemic affected the sophomore season of the show, leading to a cliffhanger finale that raised multiple questions about the upcoming chapter. As a result, exact plot details about season 3 are still being kept under wraps, but the introduction of Madame Rouge could mean trouble for the unlikely heroes.

While fans are still waiting for the actual release date of the next season of Doom Patrol, a new report has emerged that points to significant casting additions for the series.

The Direct exclusively learned that Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant have joined the cast of Doom Patrol's third season.

Croft and Tennant will be playing the Dead Boy Detectives, Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland, a pair that truly lives up to their name as posthumous beings who investigate mysteries of the living.

Croft previously played a young Ned Stark from Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, Ty Tennant is known for his work in Tolkien and War of the Worlds. Ty is also the son of David Tennant, the actor known for many popular roles like The Doctor in BBC's Doctor Who and Kilgrave in Netflix's Jessica Jones

AN INTRIGUING ADDITION TO DOOM PATROL'S ENSEMBLE

It remains to be seen how the Dead Boy Detectives will factor into the narrative of Doom Patrol, but the pair's history in the comics could provide a hint of how it will all go down.

Created by Neil Gaiman and artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones, the Dead Boy Detectives debuted in the pages of 1991's The Sandman # 25. Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine are ghosts of two dead children who decided to stay on Earth rather than enter the afterlife to investigate crimes involving the supernatural.

The detectives and the group of misfit heroes already met in a comic book crossover from Vertigo's The Children's Crusade. In that storyline, Rowland and Paine were tasked to find out what happened to the children of a small British town called Flaxdown who mysteriously disappeared.

The crossover was full of twists and turns, but it was Dorothy who served as the connecting thread of the Doom Patrol to the detectives. It was revealed that Dorothy ended up in Free Country, a place where tortured children go to escape the horrors of the grown-up world, and apparently, this is where some children from Flaxdown ended up.

It was established during season 2 that Dorothy is growing up to be a full-fledged adult, meaning that her powers will be amplified and will become dangerous. The finale revealed that Dorothy was swallowed by the Candlemaker, but evidence suggests that the team will defeat the villain to free her.

However, it's possible that Dorothy will run away again to save her father (The Chief) and her newfound family from harm, thus ending up in Free Country. There's a good chance that the Doom Patrol will seek the services of the Dead Boy Detectives for this mission, meaning that Doom Patrol will finally explore supernatural themes when it returns for Season 3.

Throughout its run, the series has shown numerous outlandish situations and strange occurrences in every episode, effectively living up to its promise of wacky adventures alongside heartfelt moments. If anything, the arrival of the Dead Boy Detectives will no doubt boost the otherworldly antics of Doom Patrol

The first two seasons of Doom Patrol are now streaming on HBO Max.
