Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam Expands Cast With Ramy's Mo Amer
As Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson's Black Adam begins filming, it's safe to say DC's magical blockbuster has a star-studded cast attached. The titular anti-hero will be accompanied by the cinematic debut of the Justice Society of America, including Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
The classic DC Comics team will be played by a group of renowned actors including former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, and Quintessa Swindell, respectively.
While Black Adam is only just picking up steam for its July 29, 2022, theatrical debut, it has been in pre-production for some time now as The Rock has been attached to the role since 2014.
As filming gets underway, DC and Warner Bros. continue to announce further mysterious castings for the upcoming film, with Tony Award-nominee James Cusati-Moyer being its latest addition.
STAND-UP COMEDIAN CAST IN MYSTERY BLACK ADAM ROLE
Deadline has exclusively revealed stand-up comedian and Ramy star Mo Amer has joined Black Adam in an unannounced role.
The actor shared his excitement to join the cast on Instagram with the Arabic phrase “Al-Hamdulilah,” which translates to “praise be to God.” Ramer went on to say he feels “blessed to join this great cast.”
BLACK ADAM ADDS YET ANOTHER MYSTERY CHARACTER
Following James Cusati-Moyer, Amer is the second actor to join Black Adam under the premise of being a mystery character, so who exactly are they playing? Some have speculated they could also be playing further Justice Society members on top of the four main heroes already — being Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.
Typically, the heroic team would contain a lot more than four members, so with this being the team's introduction, they may wish to set the stage to expand in future projects. Hourman has recently been announced to take the lead in his own solo film, making it possible he could tie into this iteration of the society of which he is a frequent member.
Following Zack Snyder's Justice League, DC's premiere superhero team is taking a hiatus, for now, with no sequel yet announced. Giving an alternate team like the Justice Society the lead of their own blockbuster could satisfy the fans' desire for more large-scale team-up action.
Many have speculated Cusati-Moyer could be lined up to portray the DCEU's Hourman, however, Mo Amer's role may be harder to pinpoint. If the two were to play founding members of the Justice Society, they would likely be signed up for multiple future projects following Black Adam.
Black Adam will release exclusively in theaters on July 29, 2022.
