Justice League Originally Had Green Lantern & Martian Manhunter Together For Snyder Cut Scene

Martian Manhunter Green Lantern Justice League

Director Zack Snyder brought his vision for Justice League to the world just a couple of weeks ago, which is still sparking discussions with each passing day. The revamped story in Zack Snyder's Justice League offered more depth to the six core heroes while also introducing players on both sides of the fight that were absent from the 2017 theatrical cut.

Some of the most notable of these new additions were villains like DeSaad and Darkseid, who kept an eye on Steppenwolf in his search for the Mother Boxes. However, the heroic side wasn’t forgotten as Harry Lennix finally got to bring the Martian Manhunter to life, even if it was only for a few minutes of screen time.

As it turns out, plans were originally in place for the Manhunter to interact with another classic DC hero teased in the Snyder Cut...

MANHUNTER MEETS LANTERN?

In a recent interview with the LightCast Podcast, via ComicBook.com, Harry Lennix shared some insight into his experience on Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Evidently, there was supposed to be a scene with “Martian Manhunter and John Stewart,” the classic Green Lantern character Snyder wanted to include in the movie. While he ended up doing the scene with Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, Lennix still “thought (it) was fun” to play the scene out that way."

"All along I knew that I was going to be in it. It was going to be Martian Manhunter and John Stewart. J'onn J'onzz and John Stewart, as it were, in the movie. But then they made him take out that part. So I did go in later, in like October, to do the scene with Ben Affleck. So I think that was the recipient, that is to say, the information that was conveyed in that scene, [Snyder] just had Martian Manhunter do it, which I thought was fun. He said something to the effect that he felt there was a good way to tie it up, the information that needs to be put out there is out there."

While he was hoping to film the scene with John Stewart, he seems confident that “the Green Lantern will live on in another part of the franchise” in some form later on:

"We know that the Green Lantern will live on in another part of the franchise such as the DCEU. Hey man, I'm there to serve. It's not uncommon where sometimes an actor has to fill in for another actor, it happens quite a bit."

GREEN LANTERNS LIGHT....EVENTUALLY...

The Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern have been major topics of discussion for DC fans relating to the Snyder Cut, especially with the teases that Zack Snyder continues to lay out for both.

Manhunter was revealed to have been lurking in the shadows for much of the movie before revealing himself to Bruce Wayne. This came after years of hints from both Snyder and Lennix that General Swanwick was really the extra-terrestrial hero in disguise, and it turned out to be one of the more exciting reveals to come in the four-hour Snyder Cut.

While the Green Lantern was also talked about at length for the last few months, the character was only hinted at during the major early battle against Darkseid.

Ryan Reynolds joked about his version of Hal Jordan from 2011's Green Lantern being involved, although Snyder confirmed that he would've had John Stewart as the core hero within the DCEU. Reynolds may have used this rumor for laughs the way he does with so many topics in the comic book movie world, but it certainly would have been a fun addition to the extended cut of Justice League with either Green Lantern in a semi-starring role.

This scene would have been yet another exciting addition to the Snyder Cut story, but it appears that fans will have to keep waiting for the Green Lanterns to officially light within the DCEU. Zack Snyder's Justice League is now available to stream on HBO Max.
