Justice League: Zack Snyder Sneaks Darkseid Easter Egg Into Army of the Dead Trailer
Particularly in the modern era of movies, fans are always on the lookout for Easter eggs; these can either be teases toward other sections of one franchise or paying tribute to stories from completely separate universes. The most common place for these kinds of teases is present-day superhero movies which have a plethora of options to use as Easter eggs.
Last month, one of the hotspots for Easter eggs was Zack Snyder's Justice League upon its HBO Max release, largely due to its extended four-hour-two-minute runtime. While director Zack Snyder also had other movies in the works as he pulled this one together, it's clear that the DC universe has greatly impacted his life and career over most of the past decade.
This is proven by a fun Easter egg revealed in the trailer for his latest movie...
JUSTICE LEAGUE MEETS ARMY OF THE DEAD
In the newly released trailer for Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, Omari Hardwick's Vanderohe can be seen with a tattoo of an Omega symbol on his chest.
This is likely a nod to the classic DC supervillain Darkseid, who was recently seen in Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max.
ZACK SNYDER SHOWING HIS LOVE FOR DARKSEID
Even after giving DC fans the long-awaited Snyder Cut, Zack Snyder found a way to pay tribute to the franchise in which he has worked for most of the past decade: the DC Extended Universe.
Darkseid made his big-screen live-action debut in Zack Snyder's Justice League nearly a month ago, coming to largely positive reviews as the movie's big bad. While it's unclear if the god-like being will actually find his way into the canon DCEU in the future, the Snyder Cut teased his immense power even without him throwing one punch at the movie's core heroes.
Army of the Dead might be in a completely separate universe from anything connected to DC Films or DC Comics, but Zack Snyder's passion for the universe can't be understated.
This is also the second confirmed DC Easter egg from this movie alone after "ZS JL Director's Cut 214" appeared on a film reel. It will be interesting to see if any other comic-related Easter eggs come in the full story of Army of the Dead, but for now, the Darkseid tribute is a fun nod to the widely popular comic book movie universe.
Army of the Dead will arrive in theaters and on Netflix on May 21. Zack Snyder's Justice League is available to stream on HBO Max.
The full trailer can be seen below, with the Easter egg coming at the 0:59 mark:
