Loki: Tom Hiddleston Can't Believe He's Still Playing Marvel Character

Tom Hiddleston Loki

Soon to join Marvel's ever-expanding library of Disney+ series is Lokistarring Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson and set to release on June 11, 2021.

While it's true Loki died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, this series focuses on the Loki variant who escaped with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame when the Avengers traveled back in time to New York in 2012.

Trailers have shown the God of Mischief in the custody of the TVA (Time Variance Authority), who need Loki to fix the various branches in time he created through his time traveling.

And as promotion ramps up for this Disney+ series, Loki actor Tom Hiddleston has a few thoughts about his Marvel character and his Disney+ debut.

TOM HIDDLESTON'S TENURE AS A MARVEL CHARACTER

In an interview with EE at the BAFTAsLoki star Tom Hiddleston commented on his upcoming Disney+ series and ten-year tenure in the role saying, "I can't believe I'm still playing the character."

“It's really exciting. I can't believe I'm still playing the character. I'm honored that I am still, he's been a huge part of my life. I've realized I've played him for a quarter of my life."

But even though Hiddleston has been involved with the MCU for years, a series is certainly a departure from the traditional theatrical format.

Fortunately, this change may be working to the actor's benefit in that it's allowing both himself and the character of Loki to interact with a whole new cast of characters in brand-new situations.

“The great thing is I was surrounded by amazing people, new people who haven't played in this world before like Gugu [Mbatha-Raw], Wunmi [Mosaku], Richard E. Grant, and Owen Wilson. They all bring such extraordinary charisma and playfulness to the characters..."

Hiddleston had one final tease to share about the upcoming Loki series saying, "Loki is the same Loki you know in a world you don't know."

FANS ARE READY FOR LOKI ON DISNEY+

As the MCU continues to move deeper into Phase 4 both introducing new characters and elevating the stories of others, it's great for OG Marvel fans that there are still stories to tell with characters they've been with from the early days of the franchise.

In addition, it's just as great to hear that Hiddleston is still enjoying his run as the God of Mischief.

But all in honesty, it doesn't take much to get Marvel fans enthusiastic about this character and his upcoming series. For instance, even though Loki isn't set to debut until June, anticipation for Loki is already tracking higher than that for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision

With Hiddleston's Loki, time travel, and a stellar cast, June 11 can't get here soon enough!
