Marvel's Eternals Casts Lead Actress From Director's First Feature Film
Since the beginning of the MCU, Marvel Studios has become known for delivering top-tier casting when bringing the biggest heroes and villains from Marvel Comics to life. This trend has continued in a big way with Phase 4, which has already seen the likes of Kathryn Hahn in WandaVision and both Wyatt Russell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
For every new movie that's coming out in the next couple of years, almost none seem to have a core cast as highly acclaimed as that of Eternals, which will debut at the end of 2021. The ensemble includes Hollywood's biggest names like Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden, and yet, the leading role may in fact be Gemma Chan's Sersi as she takes on her second role within the MCU.
Even with a cast this big, the latest news surrounding this film indicates there may be more firepower still to come in the acting department...
CHLOÉ ZHAO GOING BACK TO HER ROOTS
A piece by the Los Angeles Times revealed that Jashaun St. John has been cast in an undisclosed role in Chloé Zhao's Eternals for Marvel Studios.
REUNITED, AND IT FEELS SO GOOD
While St. John may not be an instantly recognizable name for casual movie-goers, the 19-year-old actress's relationship with the Eternals director spans nearly a decade. The two met in 2013 before St. John was cast in a leading role in Songs My Brothers Taught Me, Zhao's first directorial effort, in 2015.
While she may not have an extensive resume, she will have the opportunity to team up with Zhao again on the director's most expansive project to date. This also comes after Zhao won the Academy Award for Best Director at the 2021 Oscars for her work on the highly-acclaimed Nomadland.
St. John will join a cast filled with longtime Hollywood icons along with the industry's notable up-and-comers, bringing Marvel Comics' race of immortals to life on the big screen. This movie is already gaining considerable hype as an early front-runner for award recognition in 2022, and Marvel fans continue to wait patiently for the film's marketing campaign to kick off just about six months before its debut.
Eternals will premiere in theaters on November 5, 2021.
