Watch: Marvel's Shang-Chi Trailer Brings Kung-Fu World To MCU

Simu Liu as Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to make MCU history by featuring the franchise's first Asian lead played by Kim's Convenience actor Simu Liu. Aside from Liu, the film will also revolve around a stacked Asian cast playing pivotal roles such as Awkafina, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Leung as the real Mandarin.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the anticipation for Shang-Chi is high considering the fact that this is Marvel's first foray into martial arts. The film had its fair share of delays in the past year, but it appears that its upcoming release on September 3, 2021 will be the actual premiere date.

Even though September is inching closer, the marketing for Shang-Chi hasn't officially begun, but several leaks about the film have emerged in the past months through a slew of merchandise. Fans have gotten detailed looks at the titular hero's design as well as confirmation that dragons will be involved

Now, it looks like the hype for Shang-Chi will dial up even further since the first footage for the film has arrived.

SIMU LIU SHINES IN FIRST SHANG-CHI TRAILER

Marvel Studios officially released the first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, showcasing a fresh look at the MCU film featuring the likes of Simu Liu's titular hero and Tony Leung's Wenwu a.k.a. The Mandarin.

KUNG-FU MEETS THE MCU

The trailer starts off by establishing Simu Liu's titular character, showing off his newfound life after apparently being separated from Tony Leung's Mandarin. Several shots of a young Shang-Chi being trained by the mysterious Death Dealer and a glimpse at the dangerous dealings of the Mandarin were also revealed.

The footage also confirmed that there will be some kind of tournament in the film, but it remains to be seen which characters will be part of that event. From previously established MCU characters to new heroes and villains, the possibilities are endless.

The dynamic of Simu Liu and Awkafina also took the spotlight in the trailer, and it's safe to say that the duo will be together for a good chunk of the film's narrative.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated debut of the MCU's real Mandarin will be one of the main topics of discussion among fans. It seems that the menacing bravado of Leung's chief villain should generate more excitement for the character's proper introduction in the film.

Liu's martial arts skills are pushed to the forefront in the first official footage as well. This sneak peek proved that the actor will definitely deliver in terms of diving into the hand-to-hand combat sequences of the upcoming Phase 4 movie, and it will be interesting to find out if he will have other powers aside from his kung fu arsenal.

Shang-Chi is shaping up to be quite an exciting and unique MCU project, and it's a good thing that the film's release is only months away.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to premiere on September 3, 2021.
