Avengers: Endgame's Time Travel Will Reportedly Be Surpassed By Loki's Disney+ Show

Marvel Studios is just under three weeks away from returning to its regularly scheduled release programming with the first episode of Loki premiering on Disney+ on June 9. Tom Hiddleston will take on the mischievous trickster yet again as this series puts him in a leading role for the first time since 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.

The core theme presiding over all six episodes of the MCU's third Disney+ series is the idea of time travel, largely thanks to the continuing presence of the Time Variance Authority. Thankfully, this won't be the first time the franchise has tackled this challenge, which has served as a key plot point in dozens of Hollywood's biggest outings through the decades.

2016's Doctor Strange featured the Time Stone as the Sorcerer Supreme moved closer to his endgame while Avengers: Endgame itself featured the Time Heist to retrieve all six stones, setting up the very plot of Loki when Hiddleston's 2012 Variant escaped with the Tesseract.

According to the latest press surrounding this show, Loki is about to take the idea of time travel and run even further with it.

A BLAST TO THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE IN LOKI

A feature from Entertainment Weekly, which centered on Marvel Studios' Loki, discussed how the show will begin with the Time Variance Authority arresting Tom Hiddleston's central anti-hero after he escaped with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. The organization then wants his help to fix the timeline problems he created, as has been seen in trailers for the Disney+ series.

Most interestingly, EW stated that there will be "a lot" more time travel in Loki in comparison to 2019's Endgame. The plot will also reportedly tackle whether Loki will be an ally or an enemy in early episodes.

LOKI UP TO HIS OLD TRICKS AND THEN SOME

On the surface, this claim seems to make plenty of sense considering Loki heavily features an entity called the Time Variance Authority, which has been teased for more than a year. Nonetheless, this should make for a thrilling adventure as Tom Hiddleston is thrust back into the MCU spotlight.

While no specifics for the plot have been teased in terms of time travel, Loki is seen causing mayhem in some of world history's iconic locations through the first few trailers. It's clear that his theft of the Tesseract will cause a litany of issues through the MCU timeline, and fans are looking forward to seeing how Marvel Studios specifically puts that to the screen.

As for whether Loki will help or hinder the TVA, this is yet another case of the God of Mischief being the God of Mischief.

Throughout his time in the MCU, Hiddleston's Loki has regularly looked out for himself, no matter what side of the fight he ends up on to achieve that goal. This should particularly be the case with this being the 2012 variant who was at his darkest point, although the hope is that some of his redemption arc will come back through the six episodes.

Loki will debut on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
