Loki Season 2? Tom Hiddleston Is Excited For Marvel Future, Whatever It May Be
Even though the premiere of Loki is still two weeks away, there has already been plenty of buzz about a second season of the MCU Disney+ series.
The show's format does seem to lend itself to multiple seasons more than something like WandaVision, as the series will follow Loki after escaping with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame and being forced to travel to different periods in history to fix the timeline he caused a rift in as a result.
Now that press for the series has started, the opportunity to get an answer straight from the cast and crew about a second season of Loki has finally arisen. While nothing has been confirmed, lead actor Tom Hiddleston certainly doesn't seem to be opposed to the idea.
LOKI BOUNCING IN AND OUT OF THE MCU
In an interview with Total Film, via Gamesradar, Hiddleston explained his belief that having expectations of with future with Marvel is "futile and a fool’s errand." This is due to the plan seemingly being for Loki to depart the MCU only to be brought back several times now:
"At this point, I have learned that for me to have any expectations is futile and a fool’s errand. Having said goodbye to the character once, twice, three times, I do not know what the future holds. But I’m excited to find out. I think we could never have seen 10 years ahead."
Hiddleston then joked that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige himself could be "[working] for the TVA:"
"However, that would be to underestimate the intelligence of Kevin Feige! Maybe he did see into the future, and he predicted all this, and, in fact, he works for the TVA, and reality is unfolding as it should, and we’re all just along for the ride..."
THE FUTURE OF LOKI
While Hiddleston may have been kidding about Feige working for the TVA, it's true that Marvel Studios tends to plan things out several years in advance. However, the project schedule seems to be fairly flexible; for instance, when Loki's escape with the Tesseract in Endgame was written, it wasn't intended to lead into a series until later.
Even though a second season of Loki hasn't been officially confirmed, there are clues pointing to one being in development. It was recently reported that filming for the show was planned to begin in London fairly soon, and reports that writer Michael Waldron would return for another season surfaced earlier this year.
Loki premieres on Disney+ June 9, 2021.
