Loki: Tom Hiddleston Is Angry In New Image From Marvel Disney+ Show
WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier kicked off the small screen universe of the MCU on Disney+, with the two shows dominating the streaming service and social media on a weekly basis during their respective runs. Marvel Studios will look to replicate that success through the arrival of another series in the form of Loki.
Tom Hiddleston is set to make his triumphant return as the God of Mischief but with an insane twist. Given that the original version of the character died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, this series will follow a very different Loki, the one that escaped the Time Heist of the Avengers during Avengers: Endgame.
The villain's escape will lead him to a run-in with the Timekeepers, also known as the Time Variance Authority. Marketing for Loki suggests that an alliance between the titular trickster and the time-based organization will happen, indicating that the show will revolve around multiple missions to save the multiverse.
Now, the head writer of the Marvel show has provided more insight into the alternate reality-heavy plot of Loki.
LOKI'S TIME ADVENTURE
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Loki head writer Michael Waldron described the series as “kind of a big, crazy, fun time adventure,” pointing out that the introduction of the Time Variance Authority builds “a new corner of the MCU:”
“My pitch for the show was kind of a big, crazy, fun time adventure. The TVA is just an entirely new world [with] a new cast of characters, and that’s what felt most exciting about the show: building a new corner of the MCU.
Alongside Waldron's reveal, the outlet also shared a brand-new still from the Disney+ series, highlighting the TVA's capture of Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief:
LOKI VS. THE TVA
It was confirmed that Loki will be captured by the TVA “mere moments” after his escape from the Avengers' Time Heist during Endgame, and this still provides another look at the God of Mischief's first encounter with the timekeepers. It's not surprising that he is angry at his captors, and it seems likely that he is already plotting another breakout at this exact moment.
Despite that, Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius will look to stop any of Loki's shenanigans, forcing Marvel's trickster to work with the TVA for the sake of fixing his mess.
The inclusion of the Time Variance Authority in the MCU presents a plethora of story opportunities, and Waldron's comment further solidifies that notion. Trailers for Loki already confirmed that the show will visit different time periods or alternate Earths throughout the first season, thus creating fun story beats for Tom Hiddleston to play with.
The TVA is one of the fascinating additions to MCU lore, and Loki is poised to expand its history in a fresh way. Given that the TVA has already existed for a long time, the series will need to showcase how they both succeed and failed over protecting the integrity of the timeline over the years; fans will likely get an inside look at this organization's biggest triumph and shocking defeats.
The multiverse is set to be the next big thing for the MCU, and the TVA will look to play a much bigger part in Phase 4 and beyond.
Loki is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 9, 2021.
