Marvel Studios Signs Disney+ Deal With WandaVision Head Writer Jac Shaeffer
As Marvel Studios continues to develop projects for Phase 4 and beyond, the team is beginning to find a groove with a regular cast of characters on all fronts. This is not only with returning stars like Chris Hemsworth and director Taika Waititi in Thor: Love and Thunder and the Guardians of the Galaxy in multiple entries but with major crew members as well.
Director Jon Watts is set to lead the way on the MCU's Fantastic Four once his work on Spider-Man: No Way Home is completed. Meanwhile, writer Malcolm Spellman is already inked in to write a fourth Captain America movie after serving as the head writer and executive producer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Continuing with this same trend, news has come regarding one of the MCU's most important names of the past few years.
MARVEL AND JAC SCHAEFFER STRIKE A DEAL
Variety revealed that WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer has signed a three-year contract with Marvel Studios and 20th Television.
Schaeffer will develop projects for both divisions, with Marvel Studios projects going straight to Disney+ and 20th Television projects going into development for multiple platforms.
SCHAEFFER STICKING AROUND FOR A WHILE
Jac Schaeffer already has quite the history with Marvel Studios after co-writing both 2019's Captain Marvel and this summer's Black Widow all before her extensive work on WandaVision. While this release doesn't confirm any specific new projects, it's clear that her work has impressed the top brass over the last few years.
With Schaeffer in place to work with both Marvel Studios and 20th Television, it will be interesting to see exactly what stories she oversees going forward, especially with the 20th Century Fox properties coming to life. The Fantastic Four and the X-Men are set to be part of the MCU for a long time, meaning both are in line for multiple stories coming over the next few years.
Whatever these projects turn out to be, Schaeffer will have a great deal of input into which characters are put into the spotlight at which times. After mostly working with female leading heroes so far, this trend could certainly continue through her new deal, but it will be exciting to see what becomes of it regardless.
