Marvel's Ant-Man 3 Star Michael Douglas Reveals When Filming Begins
Heading up the tail end of Marvel's Phase Four slate is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Judging by the title, it seems the third Ant-Man outing will delve even further into the quantum realm. Although that won't be the only challenge the team faces, with comic book villain Kang the Conquerer confirmed to be arriving in the upcoming threequel.
Everyone's favorite characters are back in Ant-Man 3 to face off against Kang. Paul Rudd leads the cast as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly is back as Hope van Dyne and Michelle Pfieffer and Michael Douglas return as Hope's parents Janet van Dyne and Hank Pym. Scott's daughter, Cassie Lang, will also make an appearance in the third film but has been recast with actress Kathryn Newton in the role.
Apart from these details, little is known about the film. Although we should know more soon because it looks like production is getting ready to start on Ant-Man 3.
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA FILMING COMMENCES SOON
Michael Douglas is currently promoting his new show The Kominsky Method, but still dropped some tidbits about his role in the Ant-Man films during an interview with Deadline.
Douglas reminisced about his time doing special effects on the Ant-Man films, saying it was "a lot of fun".
"You’re just such a small part, but you have all the incredible special effects going on and green screens. And you spend half the time putting dots on your face. It was a whole different type of filmmaking. I’ve never done any special effects movies before, or any sort of green screen. Paul Rudd was wonderful, Evangeline [Lilly] was great, and all of the other co-stars. That was a lot of fun."
The actor also revealed that production for the third Ant-Man film will be commencing in a few months, saying:
"We’re starting at third one now. We’re going to London to do an Ant-Man 3 in July."
ANT-MAN 3 MOVES IN TO PINEWOOD STUDIOS
The release date for Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania was only recently revealed during Marvel's Phase Four sizzle reel. The film is aiming for a February 17, 2023 release date. Assuming this doesn't get pushed back by any other production delays, that gives the Ant-Man sequel over 18-months to complete filming and post-production. With cameras set to roll in July, this should put it well on schedule.
It also seems rumors about Quantumania's production taking place in the UK were correct, with Douglas saying they'd be starting in London. Peyton Reed has also confirmed the sequel will be shooting out of Pinewood Studios in Iver, which is just outside of London.
Pinewood Studios has been home to other notable Marvel movies including the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Eternals. It makes sense Ant-Man 3 would also film there, particularly as the production will be making use of the new The Volume special effects stages.
