Spider-Man 3: Tie-In Book Teases Doctor Strange Magic and Mysterious New Location
Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the most anticipated MCU films of 2021, mainly due to the barrage of rumors that bombarded the film over the past few months. Directed by Jon Watts, the threequel will feature the return of Tom Holland's web-slinging hero alongside franchise mainstays Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei.
The multiverse is expected to be the next big thing of the MCU's Phase 4, and rumors suggest that No Way Home will join the fun by incorporating characters from previous Spider-Man films from Sony.
Plot details of how exactly this will happen are still being kept under wraps, but the film is heavily rumored to feature the likes of original Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside Holland's Marvel hero. This claim was further amplified when Alfred Molina, who played Doctor Octopus in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, confirmed his involvement in No Way Home.
The reported inclusion of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the film is one of the strongest pieces of evidence that it will be a multiverse affair, but Marvel has yet to confirm if the sorcerer will appear. Now, a new tie-in book could shed some light on the matter.
SPIDER-MAN'S VERY STRANGE DAY
An official Amazon listing for a picture tie-in book for Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed new details about the upcoming threequel.
The aforementioned book is entitled Spider-Man: No Way Home: Spider-Man's Very Strange Day!, and it teases a story that will “take Spider-Man and his friends to a whole new location” filled with mystery and magic.
The description reads:
“This delightful, stylized picture book will take Spider-Man and his friends to a whole new location―one packed full of mystery and magic just waiting to be explored.”
Spider-Man's Very Strange Day is written by Calliope Glass and illustrated by Andrew Kolb, and it features the “same vibrant, stylized art and entertaining storytelling style to tap into the third Spider-Man film from Sony and Marvel Studios.”
For reference, the description of the previous tie-in book for Spider-Man: Far From Home titled Spider-Man Swings Through Europe! also featured locations that appeared in the 2019 MCU sequel.
A SPIDER-MAN AND DOCTOR STRANGE TEAM-UP
This new description from a tie-in book could provide insight into how the narrative of Spider-Man: No Way Home will shape up. The confirmation that Tom Holland's Peter Parker and his friends will explore a specific location tied to magic could hint at the presence of Doctor Strange in the film, and this means that a team-up between the two heroes will be on the cards.
The location that the book is referencing could very well be the Sanctum Sanctorum. It makes narrative sense for Peter to seek out Strange in the threequel, especially after the mind-blowing ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home where his identity has been revealed to the public.
On a plot level, the initial course of action for Peter is to seek refuge and protect his friends, thus forcing him to contact Strange in the New York Sanctum. The first batch of stills of No Way Home shows Peter, MJ, and Ned inside the Sanctum, so it's possible that this description could be in reference to that.
There's a chance that the multiverse shenanigans of No Way Home could originate from Peter's actions inside the Sanctum, and this could spell trouble for the young hero and the Sorcerer Supreme.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is shaping up to be an exciting entry in the MCU's massive slate, and this description could hint that it will change the landscape of the franchise like never before.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into theaters on December 17, 2021.
