WandaVision Star Teyonah Parris Reveals How She's Helping on Captain Marvel 2's Story

The Marvels will be directed by Nia DaCosta, who has already received heavy praise from Brie Larson, who described her as “the best person for the job.” WandaVision star Teyonah Parris also expressed her own excitement at working alongside Brie Larson and Iman Vellani.

Filming for The Marvels is likely to begin this summer, but before proper production can take form, Parris talked about having already given her own feedback on her character, Monica Rambeau, who will soon make her MCU film debut.

TEYONAH PARRIS HASHED OUT STORY POINTS FOR THE MARVELS

In an interview with Collider, Teyonah Parris discussed director Nia DaCosta and her work on Little Woods and her latest feature, Candyman.

Parris relayed her love of DaCosta's “point of view” and “sensibilities” and believes she's making history as the first Black woman to direct a Marvel film with The Marvels:

“I just love her point of view. I love her sensibilities, her visual sensibilities. She’s so smart. I was excited to work with her then and then when I heard about The Marvels, I mean, it’s history. She’s making history. She’s amazing and I can’t wait for the world to see all of the awesomeness that is Nia DaCosta.”

DaCosta’s approach to directing her first major blockbuster film has been very cooperative, giving “great care to hear [Teyonah Parris'] feedback” about Monica Rambeau as a character:

“As far as her actors, I feel like she took, and has taken, even as we started building towards The Marvels, great care to hear our feedback on who this character is, what story we’re trying to tell and finding ways to - I mean, most of the time when I say, ‘Hey, I’m thinking this,’ she’s already thought it and is thinking it and has been working on ways - she was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was gonna get to that. There’s this, this and this that I’m thinking about for that moment.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, well, okay!’"

Parris even said that she has actually gone to DaCosta to “hash out story points and characters arcs and development” for The Marvels:

“So I love that she’s always thinking ahead and that I always feel very welcome to go and talk with her and to hash out story points and character arcs and development.”

MONICA RAMBEAU REUNITING WITH FORMER IDOL

It was only vaguely implied in WandaVision, but Monica Rambeau clearly has a conflicting relationship with Carol Danvers, who she last saw as a child in 2019's Captain Marvel. What likely caused this fractured view of her former idol was the death of her mother, Maria Rambeau, who was best friends with Danvers.

It's a foregone conclusion that the story points and character arcs that Parris was giving feedback on were her own and maybe even Captain Marvel's as well. Their reunion in The Marvels is likely to be full of conflict, making Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan starring alongside them interesting. It could be that Khan will act as an outsider looking at their relationship.

The newly titled The Marvels is currently scheduled to release in theaters on November 11, 2022.
