Ant-Man 3: Report Teases More Scenes With San Francisco Police
The Quantum Realm is heating up.
Production on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania commenced earlier this year, with Paul Rudd reporting for filming earlier recently. Even before cameras started rolling, Quantumania momentum surged with the casting of Jonathan Majors as the infamous Kang the Conqueror and news that the film would incorporate The Mandalorian's revolutionary The Volume technology for shooting.
Even as the threequel works in time-traveling villains and otherworldly dimensions, the Ant-Man franchise is still rooted in realism. Scott Lang has been throughout time and space, but he still calls San Francisco home. Even though upstate California is where he happily resides, the bite-sized Avenger has been known to cause trouble around his area.
Now, recent reports suggest hometown trouble isn't ending anytime soon.
POLICE INVOLVEMENT IN ANT-MAN 3 TEASED
Scott had to have known he wasn't going to get away with stealing Natasha's sandwich forever.
As pointed out by @AntManNews on Twitter, a report from a June 8th San Francisco City & County board meeting revealed that the San Francisco Police Department insignia has been approved to appear on-screen in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Resolution approving the use of the San Francisco Police Department insignia for the film, Ant-Man 3: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. REFERRED FOR ADOPTION WITHOUT COMMITTEE REFERENCE AGENDA AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.
This indicates the SFPD will be involved in the threequel in some capacity and teases that production could be heading to the Bay Area at some point.
UPSTATE ADVENTURE IN ANT-MAN THREEQUEL
San Francisco is familiar territory for the Ant-Man franchise, as both the 2015 original and 2018 sequel shot a hefty amount in the city. Getting approval to use the SFPD insignia does not necessarily confirm that Quantumania will return to San Fran as they could slap the logo on cop cars for a shoot at an Atlanta soundstage. However, it further indicates that on-location shoots are coming.
The third installment has already filmed scenes in the historic region of Cappadocia, Turkey and is currently shooting in London, England. While it is not uncommon for Marvel blockbusters to become international affairs with its production locations, it would be a first for Ant-Man.
The tic-tac's solo pictures have largely been domestic, with shoots operating out of San Francisco and Atlanta. Incorporating the Golden State back into the fold only emphasizes a large scope for Quantumania.
As for the police involvement, is anyone surprised? Not only do Avenger battles tend to work in law enforcement, but this film's lead is not exactly favored by the blue. Scott Lang opened Ant-Man as a jailed criminal and spent the entirety of Ant-Man and the Wasp either on or breaking house arrest. SFPD is not necessarily after Lang, but where he goes, flashing lights tend to follow.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is slated to hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
