Black Widow: Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour & More Featured In 3 New Behind-the-Scenes Photos
While the MCU has been able to forge ahead with its Phase 4 story thanks to Disney+, Marvel will mark its return to theaters on July 9, 2021 with Black Widow.
Originally slated to release back in 2020, Black Widow starring Scarlett Johannson along with MCU newcomers David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz centers on Natasha Romanoff confronting her own history following the events of Captain America: Civil War.
The film looks to highlight Natasha's complicated relationship with her Russian family, and newly shared behind-the-scenes photos of the cast highlight their interactions both on set and behind the camera.
BLACK WIDOW PHOTOS FOCUS ON NATASHA'S FAMILY
Due to trailers and teasers, and the fact that is a Black Widow film, fans know this long-awaited film will be packed with action sequences.
This officially released photo from Disney, via ComicBook's Phase Zero Podcast on Twitter, shows Johansson and Florence Pugh likely filming close-ups for the motorcycle chase that has been shown in past promos for the film.
Pugh is set to play Yelena Belova in what looks to be a complex little sister role to Johansson's Natasha.
The second photo includes Pugh yet again and talking with David Harbour between shots on-set for what looks to be a scene of the reunited family at dinner.
Harbour plays Alexei Shostakov a.k.a. Red Guardian and is expected to be the one to hold this dysfunctional crew together.
In addition to sharing a photo of himself with his actual wife Lily Allen, David Harbour also posted his own behind-the-scenes photo of himself with Rachel Weisz's Melina Vostokoff on Instagram.
The photo shows the couple looking a little battle-worn. He captioned both photos saying, "I love my wife and I loved my wife:"
"I love my wife and I loved my wife. GrouchSNL now (has been for like 2years) streaming on YouTube #blackwidow hits theaters and Disney+ July 9."
JUST WHO IS BLACK WIDOW'S FAMILY?
While fans don't know if Black Widow is the only MCU film where they'll see the Russian family of Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, there is speculation that Florence Pugh's Yelena will be seen in a Marvel project in the future.
But, there are a number of other questions have about this film.
Of course, the most obvious is why Marvel decided to tell her story after she sacrificed herself in Avengers: Endgame. After all, a prequel film to kick off Phase 4 is a bit surprising.
There's also another moment from Endgame that has fans scratching their heads about Nat's family, such as when Natasha says, "I used to have nothing, but then I got this. This job. This family."
It's a phrase she echoes in the Black Widow trailers. The fact she says it in Endgame which chronologically takes place after the events of this new film indicates that maybe she loses her Russian family or that she might be betrayed.
Thankfully, Natasha Romanoff fans won't have to wait too much longer to find out. Black Widow releases in theaters and on Disney+ via Premier Access on July 9, 2021.
