Doctor Strange 2 Actress Reveals How She Deciphered Her Secret Marvel Role
While Marvel Studios still has four major theatrical releases set for the back half of 2021, 2022 will open with the highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in March. Benedict Cumberbatch will be back for his second MCU solo outing, and he will have an all-star team of supporting cast members to fully flesh out the deep story.
Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and Benedict Wong's Wong will both have the chance to show their magical prowess alongside the Sorcerer Supreme. This trio will have to take on a literal Multiverse's worth of trouble, mostly coming from villains like the recently announced Shuma Gorath and Chiwitel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo still lurking in the shadows.
Also coming to the heroes' aid is newcomer Xohchitl Gomez, who will take on the challenges of playing the MCU's America Chavez. While only small teases have been revealed toward her role within the movie, Gomez herself recently opened up on how she came to be involved with Marvel Studios.
XOCHITL GOMEZ TALKS MARVEL AUDITION
Via Twitter user @dailyDSITMOM, America Chavez actress Xochitl Gomez spoke at the 2021 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival on how she won her role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Gomez took the audition "not knowing it was Marvel," although she revealed being able to figure out "little clues in there" that led her to figure out it was for America Chavez. Mentioning how she "was already a fan," she couldn't contain her excitement upon finding out her suspicions were true:
"I got the audition not knowing it was Marvel. And then, somehow, there was little clues in there that said “sorcerer” and stuff, and I was like “ahh, Marvel and Doctor Strange.” Because I was already a fan, so then I just did some research and I was like ‘America Chavez.’ Whoa! Whoa!"

MARVEL'S USUAL AUDITION TRICKS
Marvel Studios has an extensive history of hiding the truth behind roles like this during the audition process, which has only increased due to the team's vigilance about keeping spoilers a secret. WandaVision star Teyonah Parris spoke of this same thing happening to her for Monica Rambeau, and it's certain to be a continuing trend as more roles like this are filled.
This being one of the first times fans have heard Gomez speak about her MCU role, it's thrilling to hear how excited she is to join Marvel's preeminent movie universe. Describing herself as such a big fan should put viewers at ease who are anxious to see her take on the role in the movie, knowing that she'll put her best effort forward to deliver the best America Chavez possible.
Now that filming is reportedly complete for the movie, the MCU fandom is now waiting to see Gomez in action for the first time as the dimension-jumping hero. Whether this comes in the eventual first trailer or earlier is a mystery, but Gomez's name will be front and center for some time to come as promotion for this movie kicks up.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will debut in theaters on March 25, 2022.
