Loki: Why Lucasfilm Appears In the Credits of Tom Hiddleston's Disney+ Show

Loki Lucasfilm

The Lonely Island's Andy Samberg once listed off "promoting synergy" as one of his most important tasks as an office manager in his hit SNL digital short "Like a Boss."

With two of the largest and most profitable film studios under the Disney Umbrella, collaborations between Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are almost expected. While the respective studios' characters will likely never share the screen, cross-pollination from behind the scenes is always welcome.

OUTSIDE OF TIME AND SPACE, AND IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY?

The Force is with the God of Mischief.

As revealed in the credits of the Tom Hiddleston-led Loki series, Lucasfilm played a big part in the premiere episode's creation. Industrial Light & Magic are credited with the visual effects and animation, while post-production sound services were mixed up by Skywalker Sound.

A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

With both Star Wars and the MCU being owned by the House of Mouse, it only makes sense that the two would collaborate occasionally.

Industrial Light & Magic was first created to work on the production of a little indie film called Star Wars and the subdivision of Lucasfilm has boomed ever since. From timeless classics like Back to the Future and Who Framed Roger Rabbit to more modern hits like The Irishman and A Quiet Place, ILM has had its fingerprints on cinematic masterpieces for a long time.

ILM is also no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The visual effects company has worked on almost every single theatrical MCU release, dating as far back as 2008's Iron Man. They have already helped bring WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to life and look primed to aid the God of Mischief in creating his trickery for the rest of Loki.

Skywalker Sound is no different. The sound division of Lucasfilm has worked with Marvel Studios to edit, design, and mix audio dating back to the MCU's genesis in 2008.

When Kevin Feige eventually produces his future Star Wars film, he'll find himself in very familiar territory. Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios have been an amicable pair for over a decade. Even as they venture into television, the collaboration between the two continues to work wonders.

The first episode of Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston, is streaming now, exclusively on Disney+.
