Spider-Man 3: Sony Releases Emoji-Filled Promo Image For No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home may be the most mysterious of the Phase 4 release as little official information is known about the trilogy-completing film. This film will follow the dramatic cliffhanger ending of Far From Home in which the wall-crawler's secret identity was revealed to the world as J.K Simmons reprised his iconic role of J. Jonah Jameson.
With several Spider-Man villains from past franchises set to return to their legendary roles many years later, including Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx's Electro, the film is expected to explore the multiverse.
Benedict Cumberbatch will once again play the magical Avenger Doctor Strange in No Way Home as the stage is set for his 2022 sequel that will delve into the Marvel multiverse.
Tom Holland's third Spider-Man solo film is set to hit theaters this December, meaning the release is only six months away, and no trailer has arrived to break the internet yet. Given the long-awaited sequel is one of the most anticipated films of the year for many Marvel fans, it's safe to say the internet is clamoring for a first look at the multiverse romp.
In recent days, Sony has begun subtly marketing the film across social media with new teasers and promotional art starting to appear, and a new post is no exception with a cryptic post from an official account.
SONY CRYPTICALLY TEASES SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME
The official Indian Sony Pictures Television Instagram account shared an emoji-filled teaser for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Sony's cryptic teaser used the cross, path, and house emojis to represent the film's title alongside a zipped mouth emoji for the post's caption, seemingly teasing news or a trailer could be on its way soon.
IS A MCU TRAILER OR ANNOUNCEMENT IMMINENT?
Intriguingly, this is the first Spider-Man: No Way Home-related post from this Instagram account which is normally only used to promote when Sony's existing catalog of films are shown on TV or streaming.
Multiple international Sony Pictures accounts recently began promoting the movie with translated titles revealed in official promo videos, which also may have teased a multiverse-centric plot for the film.
With filming now wrapped and only six months to go until release, a Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer is expected to drop in the near future. As Sony's official accounts drum up hype for the third installment in Holland's wall-crawler trilogy, it's become increasingly likely a major announcement or trailer release could be imminent.
As theaters reopen around the world and blockbusters begin to debut on the big screen once again, Sony and Disney may be keen to see their biggest film of the year promoted alongside major releases. Fast and Furious 9 and Black Widow are both set to hit theaters within the next month and will likely be the highest-grossing theatrical releases since the pandemic began last March.
Fans will need to remain patient for their first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home as Marvel continues to promote other Phase 4 releases to come before it, and Sony tries to generate interest in September's Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Given the film appears to be delving into Marvel's multiverse that is currently being teased in Loki, it's possible the first trailer for the film may hold spoilers for the Disney+ series which will conclude on July 14. Should this be the case, the first trailer for the film may drop around mid-July.
Furthermore, if the rumors are true that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will return in the December release, Sony will likely reserve any footage of them until closer to release or even the film itself.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
