Star Wars: Boba Fett Show Will Feature Flashbacks To Post-Empire Strikes Back Events

Book of Boba Fett Temuera Morrison

While Luke Skywalker's cameo in the finale episode of The Mandalorian's Season 2 was a huge surprise for the fan base, the post-credits scene revealing The Book of Boba Fett spin-off series for Disney+ was just as shocking.

After years of believing Boba Fett died in the Sarlaac pit on Tatooine, The Mandalorian's sophomore season confirmed the fearsome bounty hunter had, in fact, survived.

Actor Temuera Morrison, who played Boba's father Jango Fett in 2005's The Attack of the Clones, was cast as Boba for the Disney+ series.

With The Book of Boba Fett releasing later this year, fans have wondered just what Lucasfilm has up its sleeve for this unexpected solo series.

Now, Temuera Morrison is opening up about what fans can expect.

TEMUERA MORRISON TEASES BOBA FETT'S HISTORY

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Temuera Morrison was asked about playing Boba Fett and what it was like to utilize hand-to-hand combat in a Star Wars film.

According to Morrison, it was "a blessing... in terms of Boba Fett's history:"

"I think that was a blessing for me in a way, in terms of Boba Fett’s history. No one’s actually seen him do anything besides stand there. And of course, his claim to fame was catching the man, I guess. But other than that, he was a pretty elusive bloke. So this was an opportunity again, to work with Robert Rodriguez, who gave it a little bit of an edge. And I think Robert’s ability was to sort of make a good point of making this guy explode. After it, Jon Favreau come up to me and just said, 'Congratulations, the fans loved it.'

Director Robert Rodriguez directed Episode 14 of The Mandalorian titled "The Tragedy" where Morrison was finally able to demonstrate how Boba earned his reputation in the galaxy.

It was a huge moment for Boba Fett fans and proved why the character is capable of supporting his own series.

When asked if fans will see more of Boba Fett in action in The Book of Boba Fett this December, Morrison confirmed what The Direct previously reported saying, "we're going to see his past" post-Empire Strikes Back.

"Well, we can’t say too much, but we’re going to see his past and where he’s been since The Empire Strikes Back. Somebody pointed out he’s been kind of stuck in this one place, and now’s the time to actually go back in time and check out his journey and find out more about him... And then of course, after having a good meeting with these guys and they outlined a few things, it was just wonderful. Again, it was nice to work with these people, and it was just a great opportunity."

Morrison also confirmed that Lucasfilm brought Robert Rodriguez back to direct Boba Fett's solo series:

"They brought Robert back in to direct a few more. There’s some wonderful directors involved. It’s hard work now, what we do now, a whole new system, with COVID in place, health and safety regulations."

Of course, with any Star Wars project, fan expectation is incredibly high, and even more so when it comes to a beloved character like Boba Fett. This is something Morrison appears to be aware of:

"I just hope I meet the expectations, because you can somehow kind of feel those things. You asked me that question earlier about Occupation – could you feel or sense anything, but definitely on The Book of Boba, you can get more of a sense and a feeling for if it’s working or not."

WHERE AND WHEN IS BOBA FETT?

Even though The Book of Boba Fett is set to release this December, very little is known about the series and what it intends to cover.

However, Morrison's confirmation that the series will explore the character's past is certainly intriguing and will hopefully answer questions fans have about how the bounty hunter survived the Sarlaac Pit and what he's been up to since the events of The Return of the Jedi

Still, the series may not solely revolve around Boba's history considering he and Fennec Shand have now assumed the throne at Jabba's Palace. Also, Grogu (Baby Yoda) recently appeared on merchandise for The Book of Boba Fett series.

Perhaps fans will see a blend of flashbacks coupled with events that may tie into Season 3 of The Mandalorian. Or, maybe Lucasfilm intends to reveal Grogu's backstory along with Boba's.

Regardless, if what audiences saw of the character in The Mandalorian Season 2 is any indication, December can't get here soon enough for Star Wars fans.
