Why Emily VanCamp Is 'So Happy' To Move Past Captain America's Kiss With Sharon Carter
Despite the love fans have for Captain America: Civil War, one part of the film is almost universally criticized: the kiss between Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter and Chris Evan's Steve Rogers. Not only was their relationship never established until then, but it also was never brought up again.
This is not to mention the ending of Avengers: Endgame making that same scene retroactively awkward since Sharon is the niece of Peggy Carter. Although some fans were relieved when Sharon Carter was re-introduced in Marvel Studios' second Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the kiss and her relationship with Rogers were never brought up.
In fact, no one was happier than Emily VanCamp herself.
MOVING PAST CAPTAIN AMERICA KISS
In an interview with SAG-AFTRA Foundation (via ComicBook.com) alongside multiple other actors from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp expressed her happiness moving the character of Sharon Carter forward:
"For Sharon, it was just so much fun to see her in a different light, and to kind of put the Steve Rogers of it all to bed and sort of move on in this new way, and of course we see that she's really gone to the dark side, but I enjoyed it so much. It was just great to revisit all of these characters and be a part of this."
VanCamp is particularly grateful to be moving past the awkward kiss between Carter and Rogers in Captain America: Civil War, saying that she's "so glad about that:"
"I'm so glad about that, and I'm so happy like you say, the birth of that scene was really these two guys and their journey. We get to move past that and sort of delve into the characters in a different way, so it was a lot of fun."
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR SHARON CARTER
In the last episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it was revealed that Carter was actually the Power Broker all along. She tricked everyone, including Sam and Bucky, into getting a pardon and continuing her villainous dealings wherever she wants now. She was also given back her government position and division, giving her access to all sorts of state secrets.
Hopefully, fans will see Sharon again soon, most likely in Armor Wars, which has Tony's worst fear coming true: his technology getting into the wrong hands. Of course, it wouldn't be a big surprise if Sharon ended up being the one to leak his technology to criminal parties across the world. Regardless, the next time fans see Sharon, she'll be in an even better position as the Power Broker.
All episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are now streaming on Disney+.
