Disney+ Celebrates Black Widow With Special Covers For Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War & More
Two years after Spider-Man: Far From Home and after more than a year of delays, Marvel Studios' Black Widow finally arrives in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access on July 9.
Starring Scarlett Johansson along with MCU newcomers Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz, Black Widow is somewhat of a prequel that follows the events of Captain America: Civil War where Natasha must not only confront a new threat, but also her past regrets and former family.
Aside from the solo film's pandemic-related delays, Natasha Romanoff's Black Widow solo film has been a long time coming considering she made her debut in Iron Man 2 way back in 2010.
So to celebrate the film's long-awaited release and Natasha Romanoff herself, Disney+ and its Marvel collection have received a new themed overlay.
DISNEY+ CELEBRATES BLACK WIDOW RELEASE
As Disney+ has been known to do ahead of upcoming projects and releases, the streaming service rolled out new thumbnails and displays for Black Widow's theatrical release and its Disney+ Premier Access debut.
For fans looking to catch up on Black Widow's seven (soon to be eight) film run in the MCU, and her own dedicated episode for Marvel Studios: Legends, Disney+ has compiled a Black Widow-themed collection on the Disney+ interface.
In addition, each film within the MCU library that Natasha Romanoff appeared in has received a new, themed thumbnail showcasing her character and the Black Widow film's red, black, and white color palette.
Disney+ also updated its highlighted projects on its main menu to showcase all of the Scarlett Johansson-featured Marvel movies.
The Disney+ Black Widow collection includes:
- Iron Man 2
- The Avengers
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Captain America: Civil War
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Avengers: Endgame
- Marvel Studios: Legends
ALL NEW MOVIES TO RECEIVE A DISNEY+ OVERLAY?
Again, this isn't the first time Disney+ has changed its imagery to promote a character or new project.
In addition to the Loki collection the streaming service unveiled ahead of the series' June 9 premiere, Disney+ also replaced Star Wars movie and series posters with Star Wars artwork for May the 4th or Star Wars Day.
It's a clever marketing strategy that appeals not only to the fans but could also draw in new audiences.
However, if this is to become the norm for the streaming service, it will be interesting to see how it handles Marvel's new upcoming series What If...? since it's not only animated but includes most of the MCU's character roster.
Also, will Disney+ be willing to promote other upcoming Marvel projects like Shang-Chi or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness since they won't be debuting on Disney+ with the Premier Access option?
Black Widow debuts in theaters and on Disney+ on July 9.
