EA Reveals Scary First Trailer For Dead Space Remake

For fans of Electronic Arts' Dead Space series pickings have been slim for nearly a decade. The last mainline release in the survival-horror franchise was Dead Space 3 back in 2013 and since then there has been a Necromorph-sized void to be filled in every Dead Space-lovers' heart. 

Year after year EA has been asked about the series of games with little to no comment. It seemed that even though the publishing giant had given other fan-favorite franchises a second life like Mirror's Edge and Skate, they continued to ignore their famed limb-slashing sci-fi franchise. 

Well after rumors and leaks galore it is official Dead Space is getting its day. 

DEAD SPACE IS BACK

A Dead Space remake has been officially unveiled as a part of the EA Play Live 2021 presentation. The project in development at EA Motive (most known for their work on the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 campaign), is set to be a full-from-the-ground-up remake of the first game in the spooky sci-fi franchise. In an official press release, EA says the project will take advantage of the publisher's in-house Frostbite Engine and looks to bring "jaw-dropping visual fidelity and improvements to gameplay while staying true to the original."

The official synopsis for the title goes as follows: 

"Isaac Clarke is an everyman engineer on a mission to repair a vast, sprawling starship, the USG Ishimura, only to discover something has gone horribly wrong. The ship's crew has been slaughtered and infected by some alien scourge...and Isaac’s beloved partner, Nicole, is lost somewhere on board.Now Isaac is alone with only his tools and engineering skills as he attempts to uncover the nightmarish mystery of what happened aboard the Ishimura. Trapped with hostile creatures called “necromorphs”, Isaac faces a battle for survival, not only against the escalating terrors of the ship, but his own crumbling sanity."

Dead Space is set to launch on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

A SECOND HELPING OF SCARY

After years of fans clamoring for more Dead Space it is exciting to finally have an official confirmation from EA that a new game is coming. Yes, this project was leaked months ago, that trailer still has the entire gaming community cheering in unison. 

As for what gamers can glean from the info provided thus far, this looks to be a full modern reimagining of a survival-horror classic. In leaks previous to the official reveal this project had been compared to Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake that came out in 2019. RE2 turned what was a tanky, antiquated game and brought it into the 21st century. While the first Dead Space game is not nearly as old as Resident Evil 2, this could be its own sort of thing for EA.

Many herald Dead Space as one of the best survival-horror titles of all time, and at the time it was. But time has passed and with it a few console generations, so could a remake truly cement this game as the classic it deserves to me. 

One other thing that should get the Isaac Clarke faithful excited is the reveal of the studio behind this. Motive have proven they know how to make quality products, albeit in a limited capacity thus far. But the studio has worked with Frostbite before and know how to make it shine. When Battlefront 2 came out there was plenty to complain about, but the visuals were not one of them. Dead Space is sure to be beautiful in the most grotesque way and will hopefully play just as good as it looks.
