James Gunn & Warner Bros. Discussing Future DC Project After The Suicide Squad & Peacemaker

James Gunn DC Suicide Squad

The world is just under 10 days from experiencing James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. If early reactions to the movie are anything to go by, then it looks like Warner Bros. might have a hit on their hands. At the very least, it's certainly set to do better than the first film, Suicide Squad.

Warner Bros. must have been pretty confident in The Suicide Squad themselves because an entire television series about John Cena's Peacemaker (who appears in the film) was written, announced, and completely filmed before the movie has even released.

Things certainly turned around for Gunn. With his DC projects, alongside his two upcoming Marvel projects, the man has a ton on his plate. But being a filmmaker, there's always something more. So what is James Gunn planning to do next? And could he once again venture into the world of DC Comics?

On Twitter, user @TheThinkerFr asked James Gunn if he has had any discussions with both Warner Bros. and DC about another potential DC Comics project for Gunn to tackle next.

In response, James Gunn gave a firm and blunt answer: "I have yes!"

WHAT'S NEXT FOR GUNN

There's no telling what these projects could be. At one point and time, Krypto was on Gunns' mind, as well as the crazy idea of a Marvel/DC crossover. But if Warner Bros. already offered access to anything he wanted, the studio could put that on the table again.

After both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, fans will get to shift gears and brace themselves for the wild things the director/writer has in mind for the MCU and the Guardians that protect its universe. After all, he must have something pretty unique in mind if it trumps how he feels about most other superhero movies.

James Gunn has said many times that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3  is going to be his last project in the series and maybe the MCU as a whole. Though given the success he has been finding, it wouldn't be surprising if the world ends up getting plenty more Gunn directed/written superhero projects.

The Suicide Squad will release in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
