Star Wars: Andor Set Photo Reveals Galactic Blaster at Empire Location
When Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit theaters in 2016, the question of how the Rebel Alliance secured the blueprint plans for the planet-destroying Death Star was finally answered.
It looked as if the protagonists' stories were over, considering that they all gave their lives at the end of the movie when the Death Star obliterated Scarif, the planet they were on when they displayed their heroic act.
However, four years later at Disney's Investor Day 2020, it was officially confirmed that one of Rogue One's central characters, Cassian Andor, would be getting his own prequel series, releasing in 2022 on Disney+.
The show, titled Andor, is set five years prior to the events of Rogue One and will follow the character, portrayed by Diego Luna, as he makes his way through the galaxy working as a spy for the newly forming Rebel Alliance.
With filming for the Disney+ series rolling smoothly along the way, many set photos and videos have made their way into the eye of the public, including the Shoretroopers that were seen in Rogue One as well as the return of Ruescott Melshi, the sergeant that aided the Rebels on Scarif.
As production continues, a new set photo has recently been leaked, offering a look at the weaponry that will be used by the Empire in Andor.
SET PHOTO REVEALS MASSIVE IMPERIAL WEAPONRY
On June 26, The Scottish Sun posted a photo, via Instagram, of what looks to be a massive turret resting atop a heavily armored tank. The photo's caption gives further insight into the photo, mentioning a "galactic blaster (was) spotted on set in Scotland," and also saying that the tank shown was being used for "filming of TV spin-off Andor."
The photo has flown under the radar since its initial posting on Instagram, but Reddit user u/nonoman12 recently pushed it into the eyes of a greater audience via a Reddit post on r/StarWarsLeaks, and also included a second photo from the same location of a massive structure in the background:
THE EMPIRE'S HEAVY ARTILLERY THROUGHOUT STAR WARS
This leak is fairly interesting after taking a close look at the photos.
It is likely that this specific location in Andor will be an imperial base of some sort that Cassian will scope out for the Rebels. The turreted tanks would be most effectively used in the series if they were shown stationary and out of action, and then be used against our heroes in a later episode. This format would allow fans to see the tanks first, realize the threat they pose and offer a bit of foreshadowing to return to when they are seen in action.
The Empire has been decked out in extremely heavy weaponry throughout every Star Wars era. The planet-killing Death Stars in the original trilogy, Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens, and the horde of Star Destroyers that made a quick appearance during the climax of The Rise of Skywalker are just a few that come to mind on first thought.
The turret that is seen in this picture looks extremely similar to the manually controlled weapon that is manned on the top of the TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank used by the clone army in the prequel era of Star Wars, most notably in The Clone Wars television series.
Fans can expect these tanks to be one of many different weapons that the Empire will utilize throughout the Disney+ series, and as production for the show continues, it is likely that more set photos will be leaked before the first episode premieres in 2022.
