Lord of the Rings' Elijah Wood Wants to Join the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Lord of the Wings, Elijah Wood, MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a miracle; the fact that something like it exists is unbelievable. Look no further than an event like Avengers: Endgame to see that the MCU's presence in the worldwide conversation is massive.

To further prove the point, after the Infinity Saga ended, no one really knew how Marvel was going to go on after such a huge, decade-long event. After all, how do you follow something like that up?

Well, they have, and their output is quadrupling with upwards of ten different projects released yearly. There are now a lot of new shows and films, all of which need actors to take the roles of even more iconic characters.

It appears one well-known actor has interest in the MCU, and while he may have nothing to do with the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, there is one gold ring that he's familiar with.

In a conversation with Entertainment Online, Elijah Wood voiced his desire to join the worldwide phenomenon that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

First though, Wood clarifies that any role in the Star Wars universe would be precedent, "because [he's] a huge Star Wars fan":

"I think that's just inherently fun... I haven't had a chance to play in a giant sandbox in a while…Star Wars gets precedent because I'm a huge Star Wars fan. So more of that, certainly in the live-action sphere, would be awesome."

When it comes to Marvel films, the actor states that "whether you like superhero movies or not, they are inherently fun":

"But working on a Marvel film, I mean, there's obviously a whole conversation that happens certainly in film Twitter about sort of the cinematic relevance of Marvel. Is it cinema? All this sort of sh*t. And whether you like superhero movies or not, they are inherently fun. And those movies are extremely well made."

The last time Elijah Wood was in a big franchise setting, or something akin to a large sandbox, was The Lord of the Rings trilogy. According to Wood, "It'd be totally awesome" to jump back in:

"I think getting to play again in that universe's sandbox would be a blast. It'd be totally awesome, because it's at such an insane scale."

WILL THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE GET WOOD?

Elijah Wood is a fantastic actor, and the MCU would be all the better with his involvement; after all, he didn't become famous portraying Frodo Baggins for nothing.

As for who he could play, the list is nearly endless — especially given all of the upcoming Disney+ shows and their supporting cast, whom are nearly impossible to predict so early.

His best bet, particularly if he wants to be a core part of the universe, is to wait until the Mutants start arriving. There are plenty of opportunities with that group, and he could easily be someone like Iceman or Havok––with a long list of other potential roles to fill.

If Elijah Wood truly wants to get into the MCU, all he likely has to do is simply call up Kevin Fiege, and the job is his.
