Marvel Reveals Best Look Yet at Incredible Hulk's Abomination Vs. Doctor Strange's Wong In Shang-Chi

Fans everywhere were utterly floored when The Abomination suddenly reappeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after more than a ten-year absence, in one trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Sporting a fresh new design, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige called his sudden return "great fun" for fans.

The arch-enemy of The Hulk was already confirmed to be returning in the upcoming She-Hulk show on Disney+, but no one was expecting him to make his return in a film about Shang-Chi of all characters. Seeing the character sporting such a drastically different design compared to his last appearance in The Incredible Hulk was especially a major surprise for MCU fans.

A new promotional spot for Shang-Chi has been released, giving fans an even better look at the Hulk nemesis.

THE MUTATION OF ABOMINATION

It's great to see all the details of Abomination's new design, but it'll be interesting if Shang-Chi or She-Hulk gives an actual explanation for his sudden redesign. It could parallel nicely with Bruce Banner himself changing in the five-year time skip for the better, while Emil Blonksy only got worse after being imprisoned.

It is equally possible that both the film and the show don't address it at all, which would be fine, making it no different than character recasts in the past. However, it still brings up the question of why Abomination is in a fight ring facing Wong.

Is he after something or is he simply enjoying himself while fighting in cage matches with opponents who can't hope to beat him in a head-on fight? Fans will likely find out when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is released in theaters on September 3, 2021.
