Shang-Chi's Post-Credits Scene Reportedly Causes Extremely Loud Crowd Excitement
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the second feature film from the massive Phase 4 slate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will be a historic one due to the fact that the film will showcase the franchise's first Asian superhero.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie will feature the debut of Simu Liu as the titular martial artist, and the actor will be joined by a stacked Asian ensemble that includes the likes of Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Fala Chen, and Meng'er Zhang.
Shang-Chi has been confirmed to be set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, marking the return of past MCU villains like The Incredible Hulk's Abomination and Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery a.k.a. the fake Mandarin.
So far, early non-spoiler reactions to Shang-Chi are overwhelmingly positive, with a good chunk of them praising Liu's performance as well as the film's action sequences. Now, it seems that one of the reactions from those who attended the premiere might have teased the film's game-changing credits sequence.
THE HYPE FOR SHANG-CHI'S POST-CREDITS SCENE
Aaron Couch from The Hollywood Reporter shared his reaction towards Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, admitting that the crowd was the "most enthusiastic" he has seen since Avengers: Endgame.
On top of that, Couch also shared that he "couldn't hear some of the post-credit scene dialogue due to the cheering" while also praising Simu Liu's Shang-Chi and Awkwafina's Katy:
"The #ShangChi crowd was the most enthusiastic I have been with since Endgame. Couldn’t hear some of the post credit scene dialogue due to cheering. Shang and Katy are instant MCU all-stars."
WHAT'S NEXT FOR SHANG-CHI?
Given that Shang-Chi has two post-credit sequences, it remains to be seen which of these Couch is talking about in his reaction. Still, the fact that the audience cheered could hint that the scene might end up being a game-changer for the MCU.
Throughout the years, the MCU's post-credits stingers have been a mixed bag. There are some that directly set up what's next for the titular hero or heroes, while there are scenes that are included as a hilarious bit. Based on what has been teased, it looks like one of Shang-Chi's post-credits scenes falls under the former.
At this stage, it is unknown what the credits sequence was all about, but the excitement from the crowd could tease that it likely involved a major MCU cameo. It's possible that Doctor Strange will make an appearance to set up his upcoming sequel, especially after the confirmation that Wong will return in the film.
Given that Shang-Chi is set in San Francisco, an appearance from Paul Rudd's Scott Lang could also happen, potentially teasing a Marvel team-up down the line. Don Cheadle's War Machine is also a likely candidate, considering the fact that he could be in pursuit of Trevor Slattery.
The post-credits scene could also feature the long-awaited MCU debut of Iron Fist or even a pre-superhero version which is Danny Rand.
Whatever the case, it seems that Shang-Chi is poised to change the landscape of the MCU moving forward.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to premiere in theaters on September 3, 2021.
