After months of anticipation and trailer campaigns on social media, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures finally released the first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home, and many would agree that the preview didn't disappoint

The teaser trailer confirmed the involvement of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, fully embracing the concept of the multiverse. Despite that, there are still a plethora of questions that need to be answered, and fans have been dissecting the trailer frame by frame to find much-needed answers.

While a good chunk of the discussion about No Way Home was centered around the rumored cast members like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the threequel will also banner an impressive lineup of crew members starting with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts.

Watts reunited with Michael Giacchino, who worked as the composer for the previous MCU entries of Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and TRON Legacy's Darren Gilford serves as the film's production designer.

Now, it looks like another key crew member of No Way Home has been revealed.

During an interview with Litegear line early 2021, Josh Davis, who worked as a gaffer on Spider-Man: No Way Home, confirmed that he was working with Avatar cinematographer Mauro Fioren on the MCU threequel:

"I’m currently working on the third installment of Spider-Man with actor Tom Holland, DP Mauro Fiore, and Director Jon Watts. It’s my largest job as a gaffer thus far, and wow– what a ride! Be careful what you ask for. Be thankful for the people that help you get there. Be grateful for the ones that help you get it done."

Fioren has been the director of photography on a number of big-budget films like Dark Phoenix and Training Day. Fioren is also an Oscar winner, winning the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for James Cameron's Avatar back in 2010.

Fioren replaced two-time Academy-Award nominee Seamus McGarvey, who had to step out of the role after contracting COVID-19.

Belfast Telegraph mentioned that the production timeline for No Way Home was pushed back from summer to autumn due to the global pandemic, thus forcing McGarvey to bow out of his duties since he was also tied with another project in Italy, Cyrano at that time.

McGarvey was first reported to be involved with No Way Home back in March 2020. McGarvey's previous work includes The Avengers and Godzilla.

A CINEMATIC SPIDER-MAN EXTRAVAGANZA

Mauro Fioren's experience and Academy-Award triumphs should serve as a positive development for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given the expected grandiose scale of the Tom Holland-led threequel, many would agree that it's fitting for the film to recruit high-caliber talent like Fioren.

Meanwhile, it's quite unfortunate that Seamus McGarvey didn't end up as the cinematographer of No Way Home, and this goes to show the drastic ramifications of a COVID-infused production.

Fioren will join a stellar lineup of crew members for No Way Home, and a glimpse of his work was already showcased in the film's first trailer, ranging from the mirror dimension shots all the way to the mind-bending effects of Doctor Strange's spells.

Given that Avatar is best known for its groundbreaking visuals, it's safe to say that Fioren's expertise in handling a combination of live-action and computer-generated images will carry over to the MCU threequel.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to premiere in theaters on December 17, 2021.
