Spider-Man 3 Theory Explains Snow In Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Santorum
When Spider-Man: Far From Home hit theaters back in 2019, the world was blown away by its closing after-credits scene—one which left the character on one of the biggest cliffhangers he’s ever been party to; aside from Avengers: Infinity War of course. With Peter’s identity officially revealed, what could possibly come next?
The world almost didn’t get a proper answer, as shortly after the Spidery sequel’s release, there was a dispute between Marvel Studios and Sony which nearly led to the character being exiled from the MCU. Needless to say, that’s an alternate timeline nobody wants to witness.
The companies pulled through and now fans are all the better for it, with Spider-Man: No Way Home set to arrive this year. The hype for the film has been through the roof, and it certainly seems like Sony has been waiting on its trailer release for quite some time now.
Now that the trailer has finally arrived less than four months before the film's debut, fans hopefully have found it to be everything they wanted and more.
One of the many notable visuals that stood out was how the entire Santorum Santorum is filled with snow when Peter arrives to talk with Doctor Strange. But why?
A SNOWY WIZARD’S DAY
Honestly, at the end of the day, the entire snow-filled Sanctum is likely not all that much more than a gag in the film itself, meant to lighten up the mood and provide for a few contextual laughs. But where’s the fun in stopping there?
When Strange and Wong aren’t on screen, there are no doubt very long sessions of study and practice when it comes to casting spells or enhancing their abilities in general. As many movies have made note of, when one practices the mystic arts, there are bound to be snafus. After all, one can’t get better if mistakes aren't made.
It’s easy to imagine a scenario in which Strange casts an awry spell of whose side effects he can't stop as easily as he thought. After all, the Doctor’s arrogance isn’t completely extinguished.
For one, this could have come in the form of a portal being held open for too long, allowing the elements to get in. Remember in Doctor Strange when Kaucilius’ henchman gets tossed into the desert thanks to the portal mirrors? Or when Wong sends Cull Obsidian on a trip to Antarctica? Well, imagine something like that, but with the environment’s weather getting into the Sanctum.
Another possibility is that the Sorcerer Supreme accidentally cast a snowstorm in his abode, which would be quite an annoying mistake. No matter how it happened, it certainly doesn't look like it made Wong very happy.
THE WONG OF IT ALL
The Wong that audiences have seen so far throughout the MCU has been a cautious one, taking care to play things safe and by the book. More so, he is likely always trying to keep Strange in check.
This Wong stance is no more clear than when Peter asks Doctor Strange about potentially casting a spell to solve all of his problems, a solution in which Wong was the first to warn the Sorcerer Supreme about.
A spell as large as erasing the entire world’s memory can’t be an easy one—and it’s likely to be dangerous and risky in all kinds of unimaginable ways. So it’s completely understandable that he would be hesitant of Strange doing any such thing.
But again, with Strange, he isn’t one to let his limitations stop him, especially if it is to help someone he views as a young friend who is in a tough spot. This is where that arrogance peaks its head again, just as Strange’s guard is down as he tries to help someone who he saved half the universe.
Stephen may have also underestimated the spell, thinking that there was nothing to fret about—after all, he is the Sorcerer Supreme. In fact, he may not have even known that there was a multiversal element to consider in the first place.
As for where Wong may be going when he's last seen in the trailer, there’s a good chance that Strange has gotten on his nerves and he just needs a break. This could easily be a lead-in to his appearance in Shang-Chi—a possibility to be revealed when the film releases on September 3.
From everything that has been rumored about Spider-Man: Far From Home, it’s likely this trailer is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the world will get to experience. After all, neither Tobey Maguire nor Andrew Garfield makes an appearance—even those most of the rogue gallery does in some way, shape, or form.
