Venom 2: New Promo Hints at Spider-Man Battle Concept

Venom, Marvel, Spider-Man, Carnage

Back when Sony first started creating Venom, it was to the ire of many fans across the world. After all, what is Venom without Spider-Man? Well, like it or not, Sony found the answer in Tom Hardy's interpretation of the character.

The film hit theaters receiving a lukewarm reaction, but it was successful enough for its sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage to get the green light. The sequel's most recent trailer showed plenty of Carnage, showcasing what seems to be a fantastic design for the character—much better than the glimpses seen in the first trailer.

With the two most infamous symbiotes making their way into the minds of comic book movie fans everywhere once again, it's hard not to want to see them go up against the ol' webhead, as both should have already done. Especially with the MCU introducing the multiverse, all the elements are in play to make that finally happen.

Well, now fans have found a small clue that it might be on Sony's mind as well:

SPIDER-MAN VS. VENOM?

In a recently released behind-the-scenes featurette for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, fans have pointed out something intriguing hiding in plain sight.

At 1:03 in the video, an artist can be seen working on Carnage, an image shown above. However, if one takes a closer look at the tabs in his workstation, something interesting pops out:

A file named "george-evangelista-venom-spiderman.jpg" can be seen clear as day. Upon searching, the name included in the file belongs to George Evangelista, a very prominent professional digital artist, who is known for his various high-quality pop culture "fan art."

Evangelista drew up the piece below five years ago, one that matches up perfectly with the rest of the file's designation:

Venom, Carnage, Marvel, MCU, Spider-Man

Seeing this specific image open on an art workstation that is actively being used to work on Venom: Let There Be Carnage is suspect to say the least. Of course, this is a far cry from any confirmation that Spider-Man will appear in the upcoming film, but it is certainly something to take note of.

It is unknown if the artist himself, George Evangelista, is working on the film—if in fact, he could be the hand seen in the featurette.

WILL FANS SEE SPIDER-MAN?

It's hard to see where Tom Holland's Spider-Man could fit into any appearance in the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage film. Especially since his next adventure is rumored to be introducing Peter to the very thing that Quentin Beck lied about when he was overseas —a project set to release after Venom's next outing.

After that, there's likely to be plenty of time to set up some kind of confrontation with Peter and the symbiotes which have been missing from his life. Another outcome to Spider-Man: No Way Home, if the rumored return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are true, is one of those two Spider-Men becoming the defacto Spider-Man for Sony's cinematic universe.

It would be a smart play, allowing Sony to go do whatever they want, but without being hindered by the absence of Spider-Man. Not only would it be exciting to see someone like Andrew Garfield going up against Venom or Carnage, but the possibility of seeing his Spider-Man against Kraven the Hunter would be a dream come true for many fans.

Until then, fans will have to enjoy Sony's next few villain solo movies in Venom: Let There Be Carnage on September 24, Morbius on January 19, 2022, and the upcoming Kraven solo film.
