Andrew Garfield Reflects on Amazing Spider-Man 'Fights' With No Way Home Producer Amy Pascal

With Spider-Man: No Way Home on the near horizon, all eyes are on the webslingers that may or may not be appearing in the movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man's Andrew Garfield was rumored to star in the film alongside fellow Peter Parker actor Tobey Maguire, which was supported by Jamie Foxx's shocking return as the villain Electro.

The potential for Garfield's reappearance was only emboldened by a supposedly leaked photo from the No Way Home set, which has since been scrubbed from the net by Sony Pictures. In spite of the growing evidence, though, Garfield has continuously denied any involvement in the upcoming multiversal mashup.

Though he has discussed his passion for the wallcrawler in the past, Garfield has also spoken about how he became disillusioned with Sony Pictures tampering with the Spider-Man films that he starred in.

Looking back on the experience now, Garfield has since changed his tune on the whole ordeal.

In an interview with Variety, Andrew Garfield reflected on his time working on The Amazing Spider-Man films, calling the experience "beautiful."

Despite that, Garfield admitted that he and Sony producer Amy Pascal "would fight" but that the two would try to compromise as much as possible when considering "why [Garfield] wanted to do this role what [Pascal's] needs were as the head of the studio:"

“It was only beautiful. I got to meet Emma [Stone] and work with her and Sally Field. I had karma with Amy Pascal, who was a mother figure, and we would fight, but ultimately, we loved each other on a deep level. We tried to meet as much in the middle as we could in terms of why I wanted to do this role, and what her needs were as the head of the studio.”

Pascal had nothing but praise for Garfield, saying that she "knew he was a genius" after seeing him star in the series Red Riding. The Sony producer also described what qualities enabled Garfield to "perfectly" fit the role of Spider-Man:

"He perfectly captured the inner life of a high school student as Peter. He exudes such pathos and such intelligence. I think everything good is coming to Andrew.”

Andrew Garfield Vs. Amy Pascal

Andrew Garfield has shown a great deal of passion for Spider-Man as a character, which would understandably result in some tension with Sony Pictures' ultimate plan.

Though the films have their fans, The Amazing Spider-Man duology clearly has studio notes plastered all over it, so it would be interesting to know what exactly the Peter Parker actor was able to push back on and get away with.

It is good to know that both Garfield and Pascal have moved past their disagreements, a hopefully good sign for the possibility of Garfield's Spider-Man migrating to No Way Home. If Garfield does get another opportunity to return as the webslinger, potentially, he won't be under as many stringent restrictions this time around.

Whether Andrew Garfield is in the film or not, Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on December 17, 2021.
