Black Panther 2 Music Work Begins With Returning Oscar-Winner Ludwig Göransson

Black Panther Wakanda Forever

Marvel Studios is currently deep into production on 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to be the first major expansion into Wakanda in what will have been more than four years.

This film will be a particularly emotional outing with the team paying tribute to T’Challa star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away just over a year ago from cancer. Fans are enjoying his final MCU performance in What It…?, and the team behind next year’s sequel is looking to do anything possible to honor his memory as the Wakandan King.

Fans have gotten exciting inside looks at the action coming on location in Massachusetts while behind-the-scenes personnel find their places on the team as well. One of those staff members just confirmed his own return on the film with quite an extended timeframe to complete his work at that.

Oscar-Winning Composer Back For Black Panther 2

Composer Ludwig Göransson confirmed to Variety that he will return to write the score for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He previously won an Academy Award in 2018 for his score on the original Black Panther as well as an Emmy award in 2020 for his musical composition on The Mandalorian.

With the sequel currently filming, Göransson revealed that he’s “starting conceptual ideas and having conversations” with director Ryan Coolger about the musical decisions he’s set to make.

Additionally, he spoke on how he hasn’t watched the original movie “since last year’s tragic passing” of leading actor Chadwick Boseman. The composer admitted that it’s “going to be an emotional time” coming back to work with Marvel Studios again.

Göransson Ready For More Wakanda

While Göransson is getting to work on the music for Wakanda Forever nearly ten months before its release, this isn’t an uncommon strategy for the Oscar-winner.

He utilized a similar timeframe for his score on Black Panther, and with the anticipation building for the sequel, he seems to want as much preparation as he can get. Although filming is still far from finished, Göransson should have a solid head-start, having already been involved with the MCU in the past and having so much success three years ago.

As has been the case with multiple cast and crew members, he understands the challenges of making this movie after Boseman’s passing in August 2020. The icon helped give Black Panther the soul and emotion that made it such a hit critically and financially, and it’s clear that Göransson knows how emotional of a journey it will be to continue on.

With plenty of work ahead of him, the composer is already going at full speed to develop a score that will hopefully invoke a similar reaction to his previous MCU work.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently filming and will release in theaters on July 8, 2022.
